will probably retire the richest musician in the world? (semi-trick question)

I'm afraid not. Now, some may disagree with the answer for certain reasons, but I am confident the answer is accurate, and that it is not Paul McCartney.

I guess google is *not* my friend. :teeth:

The "probably" makes this a very subjective question.

True... There's no way to know for sure. My guess would normally be Paul McCartney, who is currently valued at over 1.5 billion. Elton John and Madonna are close (half billion each?), but this particular person, when all is said and done, will "probably" have more. :thumbsup2

My last guess for the night then is Michael Jackson...but I'm too tired to stay up, so I'll "probably" check back tomorrow to see if I was right. :teeth:

Okay, the answer I am going to give (and again, there's no way to know if this will be true) is... composer/producer Peter Buffett.

When you consider who Peter Buffett's father is (Warren Buffett, aka 2nd richest person in the world) this seems obvious. But father Buffett has said in the past that he is likely to leave the bulk of his near $45 billion fortune to a foundation in his family's name, not to his children (hence my hesitance). But considering the overall scope of Buffett's investments and current net worth, even a super modest inheritance, a fraction of that wealth could make Peter a billionaire.

??? and all the musicians aforementioned are not billionaires ???

Never heard of Peter Buffett... and using your logic... if Bill Gate's son played the trumpet he would probably retire the wealthiest "musician" in the world.

Peter Buffett is a Hollywood Records artist, and has also been with Epic Records. He is an Emmy-winning composer who's music has been in major motion pitcures like Dances With Wolves and The Scarlet Letter. So, no, I don't put him in the same category as Bill Gates' hypothetical trumpet-playing son. Or Larry Ellison's clarinet-playing daughter for that matter.
