What makes WDW so special to us?

Hi, I'm a grad student at Northwestern doing a research report on Walt Disney World. As fans of the park, what parts of the experience make it special for you? Why do you go? :goodvibes

It's the happiest place on Earth-love how MK brings out the child in you. Love experiencing through the eyes of our kids. Being that it makes us all happy-why wouldn't you want to spend your vacations there?:goodvibes

For me, it's the memories I made with my family when we went when I was a child. I love reliving them each time I go now.

I just love watching my children as they meet and spend time with the many characters they love from the books and movies. It is like watching as their imagination comes to life right before their eyes.

It's the only place that I can feel like and be a kid again. There is something magical about it. It's like reality is suspended while I'm there. Plus it's a great family place and I have tons of memories from it as a child. Every trip I must see the Tiki birds because I remember going with my grandfather and it was his favorite attraction.

Going to WDW is kind of like visiting an old friend, cheesy as that sounds. We love the atmosphere and leaving the "real world" behind.

I think if it could be easily described it could be easily duplicated. When my DN was 14, we came down to FL and spent a day at US/IOA. We rode everything, the weather was great and I had a really good time. On the way home I asked DN what she thought and she said: "You know, it was fun-the rides were really cool-but there was something missing and I just can't describe it." A few months later we made a quick stop down here and had ONE day to go to the theme parks-I gave her a choice of any of the 4 disney parks, US/IOA, Sea World or Busch Gardens...and before I was even done with the sentence she said "Magic Kingdom". I was surprised, she was a teenager, clearly outgrown the Princess stage and is a ride junkie. I was sure she'd rather go back to IOA or over to Busch Gardens. So, I asked-"Why MK?" She said: "There's just something about the way I feel when I go there. Sure, the rides aren't as exciting as IOA, but for one day, that's where I want to be"

What makes Disney magical for us is something that we can't really quantify-sure it's memories of times past-but people have good memories from lots of places-there's something more and it's what keeps us coming back over and over and over again.

I'm not certain I could put it into words. For me it's not the "feeling like a kid" thing, but moreso the "feeling" I get when I'm there. It's a VERY good feeling. Even now, just thinking about it, I'm smiling. WDW has a certain "style" to it. With all the details everywhere and the attractions NOT being just a bunch of thrill rides, it's more classy. It's neat and clean. The hotels are beautiful and again, full of details.

Like a PP said, it's not easily described.

Just "aaaaahhhh"

.

For us it is one of the few places we can be kids with our kids, we get to enjoy being together, and it is one of the few places with something for all of us.- we pay for and plan everything ahead of time so all we have to worry about once we are there is having FUN!! Each trip has been different than the last and just as magical. true it is not a particularly relaxing vacation - but for us just being able to be together as a family with no practices to run to, no cell phones going off, and no homework is perfect!

For me, it brings out the long forgotten child tucked away :thumbsup2!! Also a touch of magic most don't live daily . Years ago we saw WDW through the eyes of our children :goodvibes, now there is nothing more magical than reliving Dinsey through the eyes of our sweet grands :lovestruc. We made lots of priceless memories during our family C'mas Disney cruise a few years back, followed recently by our WDW TG grand gathering... lots of magical memories to carry in our hearts forever :cloud9:. Hopefully much more to come!

I love that it can be whatever vacation you want it to be. If you have young kids (or want to act like a young kid) you have the characters and Magic Kingdom. If you have older kids, you have thrill rides like Everest and attractions geared to them. If you're a couple, you have all the different restaurants, concerts, specials like the Wine and Food festival, and activities like any other resort - the pools, golf, etc. If you go with your friends, you have all that and more! It's truly what you make it. Every trip can be completely different.

I love that you can go to Epcot and meet people from all over the world, try their food and learn about their culture. I love that you can go to the Animal Kingdom and learn about animals and conservation. I love you can go to the Studios and feel like you're in old Hollywood. I love that you can go to the Magic Kingdom and enjoy the fantasy. All in one vacation!

Oh great - just yesterday I was looking at packages and resigned myself to the fact that we won't go for another 2 years and now I'm "home" sick for Disney again!!

For me, its the only place I've ever vacationed that offers so much variety for all types of people. With a family consisting of a large group of adults, its important to be able to still vacation as a family but provide a variety of activities so that everyone feels they can enjoy their own vacation. You can go to the parks, golf, have massages, parasail, read a book by a pool, shop, eat at a 5 star restaurant, go to a pub at night, go fishing, etc.

Like everyone else has said its just magical. You feel different there. Its so clean and just such a happy place. It almost feels perfect at times. You can't compare it to other destinations because its like no other. I have gone as a child, as an adult without kids and with my own kids and it has always been magical.
