I have heard that the SAB pool is gated because it is so special. Can anyone tell me what makes it so great??

I have heard the Grotto (sp) at Swan/Dolphin is also a good pool is there any comparision?? Or is there another resort that has a comparable pool??

Also, does BCV have use of SAB pool??

Thank you all for the help.

SAB is a small water park type pool. It has a huge slide, a lazy river, several smaller pool areas for younger kids. A lot of fun from what I've heard. And yes, BCV's get to use it also.

The Dolphin pool is a good size pool but SAB is larger and has different areas with different things. I did like it except for it was much too warm so it did not cool me off in the heat of July and was a little crowded. I also was not a big fan of the slide. I went down it once and that was enough. I enjoy the Polynesian slide much better and even if it is not as big I do like it as much if not more but that is just one opinion.

Oh Steve....I really didn't like that whole 'in the dark' part of the Volcano Pool slide. I liked the slide at the BW tho...all open, no inside part. How is the slide at SAB set-up? Are there tunnel like things there too? Kinda scary if you're really tall and don't like lying flat on your back.

Yes the slide goes through an enclosed tube, but it is big. And since the slide has a steep angle, you go fast.

The pool also has a sandy bottom, which feels real nice on tired feet. There are 3 spas in the pool/pool area, a water fall, a whirl pool, and a spot where you can sink into the sand. You only sink up to your ankle or so.

I might be stupid but I can't figure out what SAB is?

I just realized it is Stormalong bay!!!! Oh that was really bugging me ~ now I feel better.....:p

SAB is amazing - I'd put the Grotto in second place.....
Between the slide, sinking sands, sandy bottom zero-depth entry, lazy river, whirlpool, bubblers - it really has something for everyone. It is like a waterpark.

What about the Grotto pool at Swan/Dolphin?? Someone said they'd put it in 2nd place??

Why?? Is it similar with a big slide, ect or what makes it good.

We've only been to the WL so far and have POFQ booked, but are looking for a Summer 2005 resort.

We also have AKL on the list of possibles???

BTW - My DS (10) is a swimaholic and loves anything to do with water. We did the water parks but I just want a great pool at the resort so we don't have to leave.

I also prefer SAB more than the pool at the Swan/Dolphin.

The hot tubs @ SAB are much more intimate and the choices at SAB are much better. From the slide, to the beach area, to the sand-bottomed pool, to the lazy river area, shooting water from the bottom of the pool in one section, etc. The pre-school area, is also wonderful - sand bottomed for the little ones and not too deep for them.

Is the "water park area" the one that looks like a ship that you can see from the Boardwalk?

Also, does anyone have any pictures of SAB or Swan/Dolphin pool area??

WinniePoohFan - yes its the one that looks like a ship from the Boardwalk area.

You can find pictures of the pool area for the Swan/Dolphin on their website. I'm pretty sure you can do the same for the SAB pool on the Disney website under the resorts section. Also, try Tagrel.com and see if he has any posted there from his past trips.

Good luck.

OK, I'll be the naysayer.

SAB is a really really cool pool. Sandy zero depth entry for the tot set. A kiddie slide for the preschoolers. Big waterslide for the older kids. Lazy river. Sand bottom. Nice hot tubs, beautifully landscaped. Huge.

Its also IMPOSSIBLE to track a seven year old through. There is little line of sight and the pool meanders so much that you can't keep track of your kids. Much of the pool is really deep - right of the edge - with a current to it.

Personally, until my kids get old enough where I don't worry about pools (possibly never) I want to be able to sit in a pool chair and see from one end of the pool to the other. We will be avoiding SAB for the near future.

crisi -

I would have to agree that it is hard to keep track of little ones.

My kids are 12 and 16, so SAB is perfect for us.

Agree wholeheartedly with Crisi, SAB is not the best for the grade school set. It's fine for the toddlers who will only use the kiddie pool, and the older kids, but it's too big and windy for the ones in between.

We plan on staying at the YC or BC next trip because of SAB and being closer to Epcot/MGM. Our DS's will be 15 and 11 then, so I won't have to worry about watching them in the pool. If they were smaller, I would think twice about it. I've never been there, but from the pictures I've see it would be hard to keep track of little ones.

To be the only negative voice, I don't understand comparing SAB with a water park. My only guess is that people who make that comparison have never been to a water park in their entire life. My family actually did not care for SAB-it's more like a meandering waterway than a pool and we did not like the slide. To each his own, but SAB has one slide and an extremely short lazy river. It is not a water park,

Oh, I really don't want to hear this. I just switched my ressies for AKL (we've stayed there twice) to the Beach Club for our Christmas trip. My boys (7 and 10) can be a little wimpy when it comes to pools. We've never stayed at the Beach Club and if they find the pool intimidating, hopefully all the other things will make up for it. I didn't switch for SAB though but for a change of pace.

I'm a bit concerned about this pool now. My DS (10) is a good swimmer and loves pools but I like to keep my eye on him. Especially when loads of people are in the pool area.

I don't know that I'd be able to relax at a pool like this. At WL at times I couldn't see him but it was small enough for a quick check.

Hmmmm, something to think about.

FYI ... We are staying at BCV the last week of October (22-29) and we have received a letter that the pool area of SAB will be under refurbishment from November 1 - December 23.

"During this time, certain sections of the pool will be unavailable for use. However, the remainder of the main pool not impacted by the enhancement will be available for your enjoyment."
