What makes La Cellier so special??

We have never eaten at La Cellier in Epcot, but I have seen so much about it on the boards. We usually hit the Garden Grill for the characters (and the food). I'm having a hard time giving that up, so I'm trying to find out what makes La Cellier so great?

My husband and I enjoy the prime rib (which, yes we can get other places) but I love absolutely love the cheddar cheese soup and the pretzel bread.....the bread is always warm and they have the scoops of whipped butter that melts on the bread.delcious........so we love that

The ambiance - it's like eating in a wine cellar. The cheddar cheese soup is to die for - try dipping the pretzel bread in it - and I had the salmon last year that was beyond excellent. We had great waitstaff who really chatted the kids up so that always adds to the pleasure.

Another vote here for the cheddar cheese soup and pretzel breadsticks. Le Cellier is one of my favorite restaurants ever!! Everything there is delicous and we always have very friendly servers.

I think it's a nice place & good food. But to be booked like it always is. I have no clue as to why. Other resturants are just as good. I think it's a thing where ever body wants it and that's why it's always booked. That's my opinion.

My personal reason is the food. It seems like almost every restaurant has chicken fingers and grapes on the kid's menu. This one has steak!! A lot of in park restaurants have no steak or selection like Le Cellier. Unless I am missing something. I've been to GG and you can't beat the character interaction. But IMO the food at LC beats GG!

Another vote for the Cheddar cheese bread and soup. I've often thought that just going in for soup and bread would be a yummy lunch, lol!

Let me count the ways.............

Cheese Soup & Pretzel Bread
AWESOME BEEF (Salmon is also to die for)
Creme Brulee (Better here than one of the Restaurants in France)
Wait staff ... Friendliest of all the World Show case Restaurants
Small, Dark, and Quiet....You forget it is 90 degrees outside in the glaring sun


that all being said, it's not a great as it used to be before the DDP.
Portions smaller & not prepred as well as it used to be.
It also has a miniscule bathroom.
Wating area inside is tiny, so you have to wait outside and there aren't enough places to sit.

Our favorite restaurant has shifted to Artist Point at the WL. (But shhhh don't tell anyone, cause you can still get ressies there)

melt in your mouth filets...awesome cheese soup to dip the pretzel bread in...yummy adult beverages (beer, wine & mixed frozen concoctions)...super service...de-lish desserts (maple creme brulee, chocolate "moose" mousse)...and great ambiance

other than that, nothing's special

I can't figure it out. I was served the worst steak I've ever had in my life there. Didn't see anything special about the place. Yeah, I guess the breadsticks were good, but, ya know what? They were breadsticks......
I don't know why board members here get all wrapped up on certain things, but I DO know that you need a Le Cellier ADR, water from Costco, and crocs.

I believe it is popular because it's a 1-credit steak house inside a theme park.

I don't order steak, though. If I liked the specialty of the house it might be better.

Artist Point was a much better restaurant - and it costs 2 credits, so maybe it doesn't fill up as fast.

The only thing I know that makes it special is that it is the smallest restaurant in WDW, making it a tough ticket to get. We have eaten there and while I will admit the pretzel bread is pretty good, nothing really special stood out for a reason to go back. There are better restaurants for steaks, soups, beer, etc., but I think people are drawn to this place because it is in the park and a hard to get ADR. Is it worth experiencing? Sure - I want to eat at every Disney place at least once. Is it worth having to plan exactly 180 days in advance to get an ADR? I don't think so.

Truth is there will always be people who like what others dont..what one may love another may loathe..and to make a derogatory comment based on one visit is just sad. Just because you have one bad server doesnt make them all bad. I personally have been to Le Cellier several times and have had decent service. Some so-so , some excellent. If a steakhouse isnt your thing dont go. I love the people who go and then complain its just this or that, the menus are available online folks check them out do the research in advance so their are no surprises.

Yes, I agree the DDP patrons flock to get a 1-credit steak experience. Lots of hype on this one. My wife is from Canada and we think the food is just OK with the seating area less than desirable.

It's so special because it's a tiny restaurant that is hard to get a table at (because it's tiny). It's average steak, cramped atmosphere, basic food, but 1 credit on the DDP so a good "value" for those with that.

It's the Dis Prom Queen, for whatever reason. =)

Well it is true there aren't any characters at Le Cellier. My dh and I couldn't get in the first two trips to DW. Now I book 180 days out because it is one of our favorite resturants. The food is DELICOUS and the service is awesome. Can you do both?
