I'll tell you what, honest and good-natured exchange of ideas, opinions, and (occasionally) facts. And the glue that holds that all together is the fact that many of the posters are willing to discuss things rationally. This is not to say that we don't disagree from time to time, but we can agree to disagree, and sometimes we actually concede to each other over matters of fact v. opinion. In the past, there have been posts in which "Poster A" posts a rumor, or some observations and speculation, and "Poster B" presents a slightly differing opinion (not necessarily polar opposite, just different) and well established facts to back up said opinion. "Poster A" would read, digest, and post something along the lines of "I stand corrected", "Maybe you have something there.", or "Let me restate." Perhaps "Poster A" simultaneously changes "Poster B"s opinion or view slightly, or perhaps it's just a clarification of numbers. Usually the latter, but whaddayagonnado?
That kind of dynamic, mature discussion--I think-- is what makes this board (along with others on this forum) enjoyable for many, be they regular posters or lurking guests.

That being said, it is very frustrating to post a clarification of facts (especially when there is no opinion attached) and have the other poster write you off; Basically saying "those facts don't support my argument, so they don't count." I think we've all been there (sometimes on both sides). I think that the main reason for such writing-off is that "Poster A" has an axe to grind, and really doesn't care what the facts are. This kind of thing can be witnessed daily in the editorial section of your local newspaper, and it's frustrating no matter where it occurs.

Let's try not to go down that path, the path of "Well, if you were a TRUE Disney fan". Let's avoid the proverbial I-care-more-than-you spitting contests that really amount to schoolyard behavior. Let's keep this board a fun, stimulating, mature exchange of ideas.

I think that's something that even "The two Jeffs" could agree on.
;)

Kungaloosh!

I completely disagree Steve, where do you come up with these outrageous thoughts and ideas? I ask you, have you ever even been to Walt Disney World? Do you have any idea how hard the people that work there care about what they do and how important it is to them that guests have great experiences? Do you have any idea how much it means to regular guests (such as myself) that Walt Disney World maintain the standards and practices that Walt himself set in motion?

Well, if you did, you would clearly agree with me that there are many people who post on this board who have meaningless opinions that (quite honestly) are not fit to be conveyed by the moderators, webmasters or sponsors of these boards.

This is vital, life sustaining discussion that we have here. It is of paramount importance, not to be casually dismissed as a "fun, stimulating, mature exchange of ideas." How absurd.

If you were a TRUE Disney fan you would realize this.

And, stop calling me Jeff!

:) :) :) :)

Greg!! You beat me to the punch. As I was reading Steve's post I was already formulating my dissenting, hopefully comic, post. But I would have used at least fifty quotes to do it!!! ;)

I do completely agree, of course. And for the most part I think our little group does just that. And I for one am proud to be a member!! I just try to ignore the lunkheads who don't tend to play nice. But I will admit - IT'S HARD TO DO!!

PS: Was I one of the Jeffs? Or were you speaking about Jewell and JeffH?

Jewel and H... although that is a common name, isn't it.
You guys are great.
-Jeff (Steve)

As usual, Steve, you've got a great post here. POTD!

It has happened to me recently that I question (in my own mind) the loyalty a poster may have to the Disney ethic or vision. It is tempting to dismiss a person's opinion posted here as not being relevant to the discussion because of some perceived bias against Disney the company.

But your post reminds me...maybe when others read my post or fellow car riders posts, are they wondering about my loyalty? Are they questioning my bias? Perhaps, I should worry less about a poster's bias and more about the quality of the post.

But, I am sure all of us have read certain postings and wondered to themselves if the poster is really not a Disney fan and just enjoys posting here to 'rile' up the natives. I am just not the kind of guy that would post to a board just to flame the natives while pretending to be a fan.

If you ever hang out on college football boards, you would know the kind of poster I'm talking about. ;)

I'm one of those lurkers you spoke of and even though I look forward to the lively exchange on the board I tune it out when it turns into ranting and flaming on the rare occasions it does. I don't really know any of you, yet I have a visual to go with a lot of you. Landbaron - you're a big guy, with a beard and a loud commanding, (perhaps occasionally obnoxious?) voice. Steve - you've got a safari hat on all the time and khakis - short sleeve shirt with a healthy "Hatari-like" tan. Gcurling - curly hair is about all I sense. Oh well, all likable guys (or, dare I say it, GIRLS?) and people whose opinions I respect and enjoy.
You keep posting, I'll keep lurking.
Bob

Best laugh I've had all day!!!!!!!!!
Actually, my name is Greg Curling. If the username had to do with hair, it would be g-none-ling.

Plus, as to the look of Peter Pirate, DVC-Landbaron and some guy with curly hair, this photo will help:
