What makes Castaway Cay so special?

One thing I love about CC vs a beach, is that everything is 'free' (except merchandise). Food, Ice Cream, Drinks - just like on the ship. However, you can (as others have said) go on and off the ship at will too. Bike rental is a nice way to relax. Just walking around the island is a nice way to relax. And if you are tired of walking, go back to the boat and relax on deck. As others have said, there are no peddlers. I don't have to wait thorough a straw market with pushy vendors. The snorkeling is actually quite fun and I like searching for the hidden Mickey and Minni statues (well, not anymore since I know where to find them). The Disney CM's are always coming up with fun things to do (Jamsie is really good at that).

Also as others have said, transportation. I hate shore excursions for snorkeling or something because it's an hour to get there, then I can't really leave until the group leaves so I am stuck there for several more hours. I can go it my own, but I get stressed about missing the ship. I can't just walk off the ship, swim for an hour until I am done, and get back on.... Except for at CC.

So much good information! Looking for a forum about where to eat and drink on CC.
Well, the only place(s) to eat are Cookies and Cookies Two, and the BBQ at Serenity Bay. Pretty much the same food (prepared on the ship and brought out to the locations).

There's a bar at Serenity Bay and at least one on the Family Beach.

Awesome! That's what I needed. Thanks so much!

I love CC for many reasons, and as many have said, it's a peaceful usually sunny warm stop where you can get out and really stretch your legs (which we don't seem to do at our other stops without some mild "will we get lost or miss the boat" apprehension.) There's good music, friendly folks serving you yummy drinks and food, and there's no time pressure. I love a day with a steady breeze and one of my favorite things to do is to get bikes and go for the long bike ride down the ?western path that starts behind the serenity beach cabanas. It's always nearly empty and the palms that line the road are so lovely to look at. Of course, if you can be lucky enough to score a cabana, it's extra nice with comfortable lounge chairs to kick back on. We just find it really relaxing on CC. The emotion of strolling lazily the whole way back to the ship at day's end - I can feel easily just thinking about it - it's usually the last day of the cruise, one night lies ahead, and then we return to normal life. I walk as slowly as possible, and always snap a shot from behind of my DD and DH holding hands as they walk ahead of me. I know some day she'll outgrow that. It's kinda like time stops on the island, or I just wish so hard it would. sigh.

There are at least three on the Family Beach. Sand Bar, Heads Up and Conched Out. I could swear there's a fourth one on the Family Beach, but I don't remember.

Olaf's Summertime Freeze is the new one.

For me, it was the 5k ^_^

Now, it's because of the Frozen Shack with olaf! Only place you can get those fun drinks, I believe :)
They have a 5k on their private island? I'd like to learn more! Any obstacles?
