My first trip to Disney World (and first ever vacation-at age 27) was in October 2003 with my daughter, it was her second trip as she had been there with her father the year prior. For those of you that had your first WDW/DL experience as an adult, did you have anything that made you think/imagine what Disney World would be like when you were a child? And even those who went to WDW/DL as a child what object/toy, etc made you recall fond memories of your vacations?

I remember that I had a record at my grandmother's house with songs from the Electrical Light Parade (I want to go to DCA for that one reason, and I want to find a CD with the music), the Haunted Mansion, Small World, Pirates of the Carribbean, etc.. I must have worn that record out listening to it and wondering what WDW was like. I even remember what the cover looked like, it was black with a picture of the electrical light parade. I also had various Disney magazine/books that made me think about WDW and wonder what it was like. I recently found a Disney magazine at my grandmothers from 1976 and it reminded me of the little things I had when I was little that helped me to imagine what WDW was like.

Since my mom never had much money when I was younger we weren't able to take vacations. Luckily I got to do a few things with school groups when I was younger, otherwise I wouldn't have had much opportunity to go places. Next year I am taking my family (mom, grandmother, aunt and family) all on vacation to WDW, so I've guess i've come full circle, from not being able to go on vacation to being able to take my whole family!

So I was just wondering if anyone else has any things from their youth that remind them of WDW?

I have a tour book from 1977 and a 33 1/3 record book of It's a Small World and a charm bracelet. How I managed not to lose them I have no idea :)

This isn't an item, but the Wonderful World of Disney (back in the day) always made me think of Disneyland and WDW and want to go there. :sunny:

I also had a charm bracelet where I collected a charm from every special place I visisted. It had a Matterhorn charm from Disneyland and a Tigger charm from WDW.

I remember DL references on the WWOC. I also had some DL storybooks, coloring books, etc. as a child. One of the coolest things I had was a ViewMaster with DL reels. :earsboy:

I agree with hellow, The Wonderful World of Disney. I never was able to go as a child, but boy did I want too!!! I can remember Walt Disney talking about WDW and how he wanted EPCOT to be a city. I told my mother I was going to live there. As soon As DVC was announced we were one of the first to buy into it. It was as close as I could get. I have ALWAYS loved Mickey Mouse, he really is one of my first childhood memories. Thanks for the memory today. It still makes me emotional!!

It is weird the only thing I can recall is the people across the street went several times a year in their big blue and white van. They had these records with books and I remember them allowing me to listen to Lady and the Tramp, I had never heard of this before then. As I got older I would but little trinkets etc. and did my kids baby rooms in Disney Babies and even went with family for 1 day back in 83 but I have no memory of that trip. The first time we went was 97 and I was hooked. It is strange for me to have these things, some of them antique, and have no idea why I bought them, lol. :confused3

A Mickey Mouse stuffed animal that my mom gave me when I was a baby. She got it from Disneyland when she was a little girl. It's so old and different looking than the Mickey Mouse stuffed animals that Disneyland has now. :)

Wonderful World of Disney. Every Sunday nite was such a magical time. My neighbor was once on the Mickey Mouse Club. I remember being about 6 or 7 and at a cousins house. My cousin was talking to my parents about going to DL...never went. However, each Sunday nite, from that point on was even more magical. Went to WDW in '72 and just couldn't believe we were finally there.

I have a cd with the Electrical Parade music on it. One of my favorites :) I've pm'd you.

I used to watch TV with Walt Disney World long before it was in color! I had Golden Books with Donald taking a ride on the old Mission to Mars (at DL). I faithfully watched the original Mouseketeers Club, and wished I could be Karen. Oh and the adventures of Spin and Marty. My first trip to DL was in 1970 -- I was 19 and they still had E-tickets! Fast forward to 1988, and my family traveled to WDW (just MK and Epcot then) for a week. Last summer I bought a Tinkerbell pin set and in the frame is a black and white Tink with Coon-skin cap. That meant the TV episode was about Frontierland that week. I think that's one of my favorites.

Oh I forgot! I had a 45 record with the cats from Lady and the Tramp (one of my favorites) singing "We are Siamese, if you Please". Goodness I hated those cats!

My brother and I had the album to Mary Poppins and " A spoonful of sugar" and "supercalafragalisticexpialadocias" was Disney to me. We also watched on WWOD on sunday nights, of course..

I watched the original MMC with my older sisters every day, and the Disneyland show every week. My favorite segments were always when Walt would talk about/show things being built in the park, and after it opened, showing it in operation. When the show moved to NBC and became the Wonderful World of Color, it was a major event in my neighborhood for all the kids to come over to our house to watch it, since we had the only color TV in the neighborhood. I had the good fortune to get taken to Disneyland as a child almost every year, and try to continue that at DL and WDW as an adult...

The Wonderful World of Disney, The Mickey Mouse Club with all the classic Disney cartoons, and the old record story books. I wish they still reflected back to some of the old things that helped WDW and DL get to where they are today. :earsboy:

I also remember Wonderful World of Disney, and thinking, I'll never get there, as we didn't travel much, certainly not all the way to California!

I remember when I was 10 my parents told me there was going to be a new Disneyland in Florida!! Since that's where my grandparents lived, we were going to get to visit!!

First time was 1972, I was 15, and it was Magic.

Still, seeing the castle does it even today. :sunny:

Oh, I had that album, too. How could I forget? I played it over and over and over again.

Watching the Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights at my grandparent's house made me think of Disneyland the most. At that point, WDW hadn't yet opened.
