What made you buy DVC?

Simply put, the memories with my family. Kids are only young once and we intend to enjoy every minute we can! :goodvibes

My EX and I had a timeshare week at the Marriott World Center, just off property. We were staying there for a week (circa 1991) with my parents when one day walking into the Magic Kingdom we saw this "vacation club" logo above the door off in the corner and decided to check it out. We decided to book a tour just for the heck of it. And after our little movie and sales presentation, we toured the beginning of Old Key West wearing hardhats. (They were really neat as they had mickey logos on the side!) It sounded like a fabulous program, but we already had a timeshare.

A few days later, my dad (of all people) said if we wanted to buy into DVC, they'd go in 1/3 with us... they'd pay cash (as a down payment) and we'd mortgage our portion. Didn't take us too long to make that decision! And we purchased the 13th contract sold.

Fortunately, when the EX and I separated, I got the DVC membership (because of joint ownership with my Mom), and he got the Marriott timeshare. :cool1:

I seemed to never find time to take a vacation. I was practically dragged to WDW and fell in love with the place. I figured if I wanted to be sure I took time for a vacation then owning would force me to "get my monies worth"

I am glad to say oit has worked splendidly, we haven't missed a year since we bought:thumbsup2

Since we love to go at Christmas time, I got sick of paying between $400-$500 a night for a hotel room. In Canadian dollars during those times I think that it was around $700 a night. For me DVC was the best kept secret. I wish that I would have paid attention to it back in 1994 when I first started seeing the booths

We stayed at OKW in 1994 and bought on sight. It's still our favorite resort, and we'll be there in July.

Watching my kids at Disney... I knew I wanted that for as long as I could!!!

For us, it was the birth of our 4th child. We could no longer fit in a room. When I looked at the rack rate for a 2BR DVC unit I thought it was an insane price to pay. I started researching DVC via these boards and purchased a resale at BWV through TTS. I do miss staying concierge level but I love the kitchen, washer/dryer, and separate rooms. I could never go back to staying in a hotel room again as long as there are kids traveling with us.

Seeing both our kids are so happy in WDW. Plus the annual maintenance fees is lot cheaper than the resort bills.

For us it was kind of a "enough is enough" - "what are we doing?" type of situation. We had been going about every 12-18 months since I was a teenager and continued to do so with my family through my 20's and into my 30's and knew we would continue this trend indefinately. So it only made sense for us to buy into DVC as we were spending 10-14 days, 3 seperate rooms in moderate and deluxe resorts every year. I only wish we knew about it sooner. When we finally looked in to it and crunched the numbers it was a no brainer - we bought 370 points sight unseen at OKW and the rest is history!

I had been going on yearly trips to WDW and staying in deluxe resorts, often with concierge access. That was back in the day of those fabulous discount codes that got me 40-45% off rack rates. I toyed with the idea of DVC, but I was happy with what I was getting for the amount I was paying.

Then slowly the discounts started getting smaller and smaller. When I looked at what I was spending on my resort, DVC started looking more and more appealing.

When they announced AKV that really pushed me over the edge into joining DVC. AKL and the GF are my two favorite resorts, so owning at AKV seemed like a perfect solution. Plus, they offered concierge villas so I could indulge my concierge addiction every now and again.

So far I've been very pleased with my membership, though this last point reallocation made me a bit bummed since I need just a couple more points to do a 1 BR savannah view each year. I would like to add on, but I figure I should finish paying for this contract first, LOL!
