Planning our first trip to FW in August 2010 (? not positive on the month/date yet) What is your favorite pet loop? Just wondering which loop we should try to get, it would be me, DH, DS 10, and Della our pup. TIA:thumbsup2

First, :welcome:

What level of campsite are you getting (partial, full, preferred, or premium). And what type of camping set up do you have? Is being close to the pool, transportation, the campfire, or the marina area important? How about noise and foot traffic in the evenings (which can interfere with early bedtimes)? We'll be better able to help with a little more info.

We will go with nothing less than a full hook-up, but probably a preferred. Does it matter if you have a pet? Not sure about location, would like to be close to the pool, and campfire. We are not in bed early so that doesn't really matter. Just didn't know if some where better than others due to central location. We have a TT, I think about 27 ft.? Not real sure.

With pets, a preferred might be hard to get since there is only one loop that is a preferred pet loop: 300. If you are going to do premium, I would recommend 500 because it is centrally located, close to the off-leash dog area, and relatively short walking distance to the meadows area (campfire, main pool, trading post) and the marina area (boats to MK, Hoop Dee Doo, Trails End, and other Trading Post). The only thing you'll need buses for from 500 is to get up front to the buses to Epcot, DHS, AK and DtD. I love 500 personally. If you like more sun (since 500 is pretty shady) you might want to try for 600. It is closer to the Meadows, but further from the marina, without being too far to walk reasonably with a 10 yo... and you might luck out and get a water-edge site.

OK- so now we are getting somewhere.

With a travel trailer, you will have to book "nothing less than a full-hook up," as the only loop levels lower than full are the partials, and those are not suitable for travel trailers.

So, that will leave you with choosing a full, preferred or premium.

There are only three preferred loops (100-300), and they are close to the Marina, but not so close to the pool.

The 1600-1900 loops are the full hook up loops. The 1600 loop is pretty close to the pool, and it is a pet loop. The 1700 loop is kind of close to the pool. The 1800 and 1900 loops would be a bit of a walk to the pool as compared to other loops. Right now all four of these loops are pet loops, but that could change.

Otherwise, if you want to be close to the pool, you will need to go with a premium site. The premium pet loops closest to the pool (in order of closest to least close) are: 600, 800, and 900.

Thanks so much for yall's help. How far in advance can you book a spot? Is it like ADR's and you can do it only so many days out?

You can book 499 days from your departure date, but only over the phone. Oh, and according to my measurements: 900 is the closest and 600 is the next closest to the pool, and half the sites in 500 are as close to the pool as the average site in 800.

...and certain times of the year book REALLY early! Thanksgiving week is a biggie, as is Christmas time. If you're looking to go during a peak time, be sure to get your ressies in asap.

In 2010, FW will be allowing pets on all loops. At that time, loops 1600-1900 will be designated as Child Loops. Poop bag dispensers will remain, for obvious reasons, and an additional $5 per kid charge will be levied. If children are unruly or create a disturbance, they will have to be kenneled. This is true. A FW bus driver told me.

I don't know our date for sure yet. Our first trip was this year 4/11 - 4/18, we stayed at the POP. I think we are going to go for a slower time of year. I was originally thinking Mardi Gras, because Louisiana is really the only state that gets off so it may not be as busy, but I noticed that it is a few days after President's day so it will probably be really busy. So maybe right before school starts in early August.

How nice would that be if they could get some of those kids kenneled?!?!?! Including my own!

Great. Finally someone with some solid info on The Fort changes. It must be true it's on the internet.:rotfl2:

OP - When the 900 loop opens back up it is a short walk to the pool and trading post. It is our favorite loop.

I should know better than to quibble with the Santa (I mean if anyone knows measurements, it would be Santa, right?), but I would be willing to bet you a kungaloosh that many of the new sites in 600 are closer to the pool than any site in the 900 loop.

I will agree with you about the 500 loop. Since the 800 loop is a big loop, some of the sites are further away from the pool than some of the sites on 500.

TCD is right, barely:

899 Feet to the nearest 600 site, and 1355 feet to the furthest 600 site.
995 Feet to the nearest 900 site, and 1408 feet to the furthest 900 site.

I would say 600 and 900 are essentially equidistant from the pool. And, the new sites, if you start on the path near the Meadow's 15 Min parking, are further than the nearest 900 sites, 997 feet, so I'll be looking for my Kungaloosh, Sir! LOL. Now if the old RR path were still there you'd be 100% correct.

I'm afraid there's no kennel in the world that would hold the three boysies of mine. At least not together. If we separate them, they may be able to be held under maximum security, but together- well, let's just say, it's impossible. They're devious, diabolical, hardened criminal masterminds...

who adore their Dude-Mom and would do anything for her. :dance3:

But good luck, FW kennels!

If the presence of poop bag dispensers identifies a loop as a pet loop, then 600 is one... it has 3 dispensers. Right now, this seems to be the best way of determining which loops are pet, and IIRC only 100, 200, 1000-1400 are without dispensers.

Got it. Thanks !:)

I still think I am barely right, but I will buy you that kungaloosh anyway.
If you had one of the first four or five of the new outside sites on the 600 loop, I would say that you are way closer to the pool than any site on the 900 loop. If you choose to walk out the back of your site, across the grass, and to the pool.

This is 100% correct as of 3/31/09. I have not checked since then.
