Assuming the Feb. discount code rates are similar to those out now for AKL ---- I can do 3 nights savanna and 2 nights conceirge -- or 2 nights standard and 3 nights conceirge for about the same price.

Will I hate the first two nights standard? We have never stayed here and are really looking forward to it. My hubby is staying home this trip and 72 year old mother is joining myself and 2 DDs 10 and 14. We usually stay in the moderates but thought Mom would enjoy AKL and we are planning on doing the Sunrise Safari.

I know I have lots of time and the discount codes may really affect this but I have become a planning freak for this trip. My mother has not been to WDW since 1978 -- back when MK was it. I know this may be the last trip we take together (we may kill each other after it -- lol) I want it to be special.

Hi Rneighh! I've never been to the AKL, but I've researched a lot about this resort, and this is what I would recommend from what I've read:

I would stay standard for two nights and concierge for 3 nights. I've heard that the standard rooms are still very nice, and there are plenty of animal viewing areas in other parts of the resort, so I don't think you'll be disappointed. (And there's a chance, of course not a guarantee that you'll be upgraded to a savannah view in Feb). I would definitely want to spend more time in Concierge enjoying the larger rooms, lounge, snacks, and the sunrise safari. I think I would try to stay in the standard room first, and finish my vacation with a bang in the Concierge rooms!

One note about the Sunrise Safari - They only do this on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Therefore, be sure to schedule your concierge stay on one of these days.

No matter what you decide, have a SUPER trip!! :)

A little bit more information from one of our fellow Disers-

If you're considering the standard view rooms, Tinkbell wrote up a post on her experience in the AKL standard view rooms, and it sounds like she was far from disappointed.

Tinkbell even told us what room she stayed in (Room #4204). She said that she's pretty sure it was a standard room, but it had an obstructed view of the animals. You could contact the AKL, and ask if rooms 4201-4207 are standard view rooms. If so, you can always request the room on your ressie.

Tinkbell-if you're reading this, thanks for the great post!!

The phone # of AKL is (407) 938-3000. Some people prefer to fax their room requests. The fax # is (407)938-4799.

Have fun!!

Thats what I was thinking as well -- we will do our first two nights standard and last three conceirge. If Mom gets tired toward the end of the trip she can always stay at the resort and enjoy the lounge. I can't wait.

Feb is so far off

We stayed one night in May at AKL in a standard room. Our room faced the parking lot. It didn't change our feelings on this beautiful resort at all. For me personally, I would take the suggestions of the earlier poster and do standard and 3 cocierge. If you get a chance to see the Travel Channels special on AKL it will definately convince you.

There are plenty of animal viewing areas.

Enjoy your trip!

I agree with the above posters, too. Start with standard and end with concierge. I adore the AKL and personally feel that they have the best concierge Cast Members on-site. Of course this is all my humble opinion, and others' opinions might vary (as it should be). By the way, I prefer to end my stay at the AKL because it is so gosh-darn relaxing. *Sigh* I hope you have a magical stay, whatever you decide to do. My parents loved the AKL when we stayed there over the Christmas holidays.
