What kinds of things do you need to take to college with you?

we are trying to throw a surprise small, graduation party for my cousin. She will be attending UCONN and we wanted to give her a bunch of stuff that she needs to take with her.
Any suggestions??

One of the things my daughter found most helpful was a small toolbox with a hammer, screwdriver, some duct tape (we all know how handy that is, lol) and some other basics. She made many friends in her dorm because they were things often needed but no one else had brought.

An address book, stationery, and a roll of stamps, and a pre-paid phone card (for keeping in touch with people back home) and a bank filled with quarters and dimes (for local phone calls and laundry!)

A lap desk. This is something my daughter asked for after she got to school. The computer takes up most of their desk and she needed something to write on.

Duct tape and masking tapes are necessities. A whiteboard and markers, posters, 3M hangers that do not leave any marks on the walls when removed, fold up type of chair such as the ones that come in a canvas bag, rubbermaid bins, fan, snacks, drinks, hangers for the closet, laundry items, laundry bags, small storage container that has pull out drawers (can be found at Staples or Office Max), towels, x-long twin sheets, foot locker (can double as storage area), appliances such as microwave (if allowed) and coffee maker, alarm clock. These are some of the things DS needed his first year.

bed risers for her bed--i know it sounds weird, but with no room to store stuff, i put my bed up and could fit 4 storage things under my bed!
