would someone need to dispute a student loan? It's not for me, but a friend of mine.
They say he signed for a temp loan and he says he never did. They said they spoke with his brother about it. Except he does not have a brother.

I don't have all the details, but he thinks he may need a lawyer and I have no idea what kind he would need.

Thank you in advance. :)

Personally, from what you've posted, it sounds as if your friend may be being contacted by a debt collector (not an actual bank or other lending institution). Most debt collectors purchase old debts for pennies on the dollar and then use unsavory practices to try to get the money repaid... including harrassment and lying.

Has your friend pulled his credit report to check if this item is on there? If it isn't, then whomever is bothering him is in error. And if it is, there are steps he can dispute it with the credit agencies.

There are steps your friend can take to have the company validate the loan. My advice is for your friend to take a trip over to http://www.creditboards.com for some sage advice on how to start.

Thanks, I had forgotten about that website.

I would have him ask for a signed copy of the loan documents to start.

I agree with the PP, Creditboards is a great place top go for advice on stuff like this.

And definately have him check his credit report to make sure someone didn't fraudulently take this loan (or anything else) out in his name.
