What kind of kitchen sink?

Ok we are looking for a new kitchen sink. We have an acrylic sink but DS takes liquid iron and it has stained the bottom of it yellow. We want something that is stain resistant. We have been looking at cast iron, corian and composite granite? Does anyone have these and can tell us the pros and cons? Are they truly stain resistant like they say?

Corian is not as stain resistant as it is supposed to be. It is solid surface, but still is a little porous. It is an expensive alternative that often now even costs more than real stone, but doesn't really have any advantages other than the usual integral splash if it is a counter top. As just a sink, I can't think of any reason I would want one. I colored my hair in my bathroom ONCE, because I had to scrub at it daily for weeks to get the color off. If liquid iron stains, chances are you are going to have to scrub at it constantly to have it not show.

I have a "Slate" sink in my kitchen right now (Reading the box it is actually a composite stone, home depot sells it) and that is great for resisting stains, but the dark color means I have to clean it constantly to not have water marks.

I found the metal sink I used to have easier to keep looking nice. I don't have experience with liquid iron, but I have REALLY hard water and the metal sink didn't show it, but my corian in the bathrooms does. The other plus to a metal sink is they are cheap in stock sizes. Which means you could just buy two for the price of any other sink so you could replace it after a few years if it does pick up anything.

Your best bet if you don't like replacing things is probably to get a dark color of something and live with having the water spots show.

I have the granite sink and love it! If you don't clean it, you will see water spots, but they are not that bad. My sink always looks great. We are considering moving into a new house and if we do, I will make dh replace the sink with granite.

It is very easy to clean. I used bleach on it yesterday, but that is rare. I usually just use soap and water.

What color do you have? My countertops are black with specks of gold/cream in them so I currently have an off white sink. I think the black/slate granite will be too much black so I will have to special order the off white. What brand do you have? From Home Depot or Lowes? I have read that Swanstone is good but they are not at HD or Lowes so if I go that route I would have to find someone who sells them. It sucks that to get off white in any sink it will be about $150 more.

One of the local suppliers had corian in off white and was trying to sell it to me but I dont know much about them so thanks for the info. It would be a drop in sink so I guess I will look at other alternatives. When you say metal do you mean stainless? We had a stainless sink years ago and I hated it but I am sure our builder at the time put in the cheapest one possible too so that might have made a difference. You are probably right that may be the best option for avoid iron stains. I just wish I could find another alternative that would not stain. The lady trying to sell me the corian said she could give me a sample of it so I could put some iron directly on it so I might try that too. Can you tell I am confused? Ha ha.

I have this one and I love it. I've gotten so many compliments on it, even the countertop guys were saying how great it looks!

My sink is a Blanco. It is black and has tiny flecks in it. I don't remember the color name, but it is something Diamond.

I have granite countertops and the color is brown withblack/cream specs.

I bought the countertops through a local company and bought the sink through them. I found the cheapest price online and they price matched for me. I don't think HD or Lowes carried them at the time that we purchased. Or they did not have them on display. We've had ours for about 5 years.

My only complaint is that the ring around the drain is silver. The installer told me they could match that to my faucet which is an oil rubbed bronze and they did, but they must have used something cheap because the stuff flaked off. It doesn't look bad with the silver, though.

Blanco Silgranit. You won't get it a HD or Lowe's, but trust me, it's worth the effort to get it from a plumbing supply store. I've got the 10" deep large single bowl, and I consider it one of the best buys I have ever made in my life. It was cheaper than 18 gauge stainless, too.

I don't know if iron would stain it, though I doubt it, but if you get a darker color that won't be an issue no matter what. I have the anthracite.

I have a black Kohler cast iron sink. I was told that it would show all the water marks and be heard to keep clean but I haven't found that to be the case. The place we bought our granite highly recommended the Blanco sink, we almost got it put I didn't want the flat look with the shiny garnite.

Sorry, I don't have experience with liquid iron, but do have a white Corian kitchen sink. Once a week (or more often if needed!) we put the stopper in place and put about 1" of bleach water in the bottom of the sink and walk away. We let the water sit for about a half hour - boy, does it sparkle when we let the water drain!

Not sure if this is anything you've tried - but honestly, you don't even need to scrub to get these results. But, you could... Just a small bit of bleach and a bit of time... In fact, water and a squirt of liquid dishwasher detergent or a dash of the powdered variety works great too. That has bleach in it, as well.

Good luck - :thumbsup2 - hope you get the answers you're looking for.

I would get the one at Beaches and Cream :goodvibes Very tasty and will leave great memories :rotfl2:

Sorry to hijack your thread, but 20" of snow with more coming.
