What car did you get when you rented an economy car from Thrifty? I'm curious if one will be big enough for our family of 3.

I am thinking about booking an Economy car using the AU02 code at Thifty. It's valid over Christmas and New Year's for the amazing rate of $79 per week and $19 for extra days for a total of $242 v/s my best rate with National on an intermediate for $426.

I am perfectly happy renting from Thrifty. I rented from them in August and was very happy with them, but I rented an intermediate.

Thanks!

It should be fine for three. We've gotten either Focuses or Caviliers...can't remember for sure which. They've upgraded us a class or two occasionally too.

I have one of Thrifty's $79 cars at the Beach Club Villas right now. It's a Dodge Neon. Plenty of room for four adults and it has a trunk plenty big for our luggage. Thrifty never asked for anything to validate the walmart code. I also have 3 of these reserved for NYE.

Thanks! I read tha someone got a 2 door Geo Metro, which would be too small. A Cavalier, Focus or Neon would be fine. I'll be arriving late on Friday 12/17, so I may even snag an upgrade.

BTW, did your cars have cruise control. I know I can't ask for everything on a $79 car, but it would be nice :). We're planning to drive to Tampa.

They don't have many Geo's so you should get a free upgrade BUT if they have a 2 door Geo for you and you want to pay for an upgrade it'll probably cost you more than if you reserve it now.

If they offer you an upgrade you might refuse it. They may be trying to upgrade you because they don't have any economy cars and are trying to have you pay for an upgrade that they'd otherwise have to give you for free.

A strategy is to say the car is ok. If that's what you wind up with and you can't live with the Geo go back and tell them you changed your mind.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. The person who was "offered" the Geo ended upgrading to an Intermediate for $6 per day. My National reservation is $10 per day more than my Thrifty reservation. So, I have about $10 per day in upgrades before I "break even" on my reservations.

I need to double-check the cancelation policies on both reservations.

Robin for a family of 3 you could could stack your luggage in the back seat. Not ideal but could you live with it? It's theoretically possible that no cars would be available even for a paid upgrade. I think the economy Geo/Kia is basically "bait and switch", some people get talked into paying for an upgrade and most of the rest get a free upgrade since they don't have enough Geo's for all their economy customers.
