We are going to WDW for the first time August 28 - Sept 6. What kind of clothes should we bring besides the obvious, shorts and tshirt (bathing suits etc...) I heard that you want to change at least twice a day? What about shoes. Are we going to be able to stand wearing tenny shoes with socks, or can we get away with some crocs or tevas???

Thanks in advance everyone!!

Shorts, tank tops, capris or a skirt if you want to get dressed up for a nice dinner. Sneakers and extra socks. Sandals/Crocs/Tivas if you want to wear them for a change, I can only wear sneakers in the parks though.
Bathing suits, and that should do it!

You want to change twice a day? We only do that when going to MNSSHP in October or unless, of course, we've gone to the water parks. If we are at the other parks, we don't change and i've never noticed folks not wanting to be near me.

I don't want to waste time going back to the hotel and changing. Once we are at the park, we are there to stay for the day.

We always go in the summer (July) and only wear shorts and t-shirts. Unless you're going to some signature dining places, you can wear shorts and t-shirts in the restaurants, too.

In the parks, we all wear good hiking or gym shoes with Coolmax socks. If you have running or hiking shoes, they're not that hot, and they're certainly safer in crowds than sandals are. Also, I find that no matter how great my sandals are, when I'm in WDW, the heat combined with the long days and tons of walking would cause blisters.

As far as changing--sometimes we'll change shirts before dinner, but that depends on how sweaty we've been previously. I bring a few extra shirts for the entire trip but certainly not enough to change twice a day.

I can't figure out why you'd need to change clothes "at least twice a day.":confused3

If we go back to the hotel during the afternoon to rest before going back somewhere for the evening, we might change (depending on if the weather is changing). We would definitely change our shoes if we did this. But that's all.

It can get pretty hot in the parks, and after being down SM a million times with all that icky smelling water, I am so ready for a clean t-shirt at the very least! A change of shoes for the evening is usually a good idea for my family, with all that walking it can get a bit pungent in your shoe! We kind of always like to change for dinner if we are having it. Something about being on vacation and getting a little dressed up (we're talking maybe a polo-shirt here and a clean pair of pants, not black tie!!) makes it seem more special.

August is the hottest month in FL. The most important thing to wear is SUNSCREEN. SPF+++. Also, save the sandals and such for nighttime activities. Bring broken-in tennis shoes for the parks. Sunburns and blisters on your feet are two things that will ruin your vacation, and both can be prevented. Other than that, wear as little and as light of clothing as you can. You will sweat, sweat, sweat. More than one pair of clothes per day, as suggested above, is smart.

Oh, forgot one more thing.....MOSQUITOS. Bring some Off to keep them away. It comes in non-scented and works on West Nile Virus carrying mosquitos.

The sun can be blinding down here esp when it reflects off of cement. A hat and sunglasses would be advisable.

All of the stores you have come to love at home are within 20 min of the parks, including a mall. If you should miscalculate in your planning, a quick drive off the property should provide whatever you need.

I hope you have the best magical time!!!

Keep Smiling!

We always go back to our hotel for a swim during the day and then go back to a park in the late afternoon or early evening. We always change at least our shirts. They can get pretty damp in the warm weather. Who wants to put on a stinky shirt?? My kids ususally have to change because they are wearing chocolate from Mickey bars, etc. all over everything they are wearing!

We also go back to our on-site room in the afternoon to swim and rest. Since we all shower after swimming, we also change everything down to and including the undies. I cannot imagine putting on the same sweat-soaked clothes we wore all morning in the park(s) We always travel in August so that makes the difference - we have not needed to change our clothes as often when we go down in the Winter and Spring. I really don't mind doing laundry on vacation - most of the resorts have the laundryroom right near the pool. Now that we are DVC members laundry should be even easier.

To answer the rest of the OP's question, we also pack a few nice polo shirts and dressy shorts for DH and DS12 and DD10 and I pack at least one sundress, usually of a jersey type material that doesn't wrinkle. We all get along more than fine with wearing Tevas every day to the parks - sometimes DD and I alternate with our Crocs. DH might wear his leather sneaks to a TS meal but really, the Tevas look fine with a neat shirt and pair of dress shorts.

We sure didn't waste our time changing twice a day!!! We'd usually change for dinner if we had an ADR at a nicer place...but pretty much I did my cute little sundresses and flip flops and was happy as a clam! On our first night the kids will change for the Pirates and Princess party...but that's the only forseeable "change in clothes" we'll do in the day!!!

My husband wears sneakers and socks. I can't do socks and sneakers in the Florida heat. I wear birkenstocks or Teva mush flip flops.

Don't worry so much about wardrobe change...just be comfy, stay hydrated and have a fantastic time!!!:thumbsup2

We usually go for about 10 days so I pack enough clothes for 5 and do laundry early am on day 5 so we don't have to bring as much. My whole family wears nothing but crocs which are great with the rain and water rides. We brought sneakers last summer and only wore them once..too hot! I have a lot of tank tops with a built in bra and sport shorts with the underwear bulit in...the less I have to wear the better! We bring nothing long sleeve which is what is great about summer...so easy to pack...guaranteed heat!:cool2:

My boyfriend and I will be at WDW August 27-Sept 1 and I had similar wardrobe questions. (I've been told we're crazy and are going at the wrong time of the year to Florida!)
Are skirts or dresses just as comfortable for ladies throughout an entire day in the park?
And my boyfriend prefers to wear Vans to regular tennis shoes, but his feet sweat alot. He's very picky when it comes to sandals, and I'm just worried about finding some that will be comfortable all day at the park. Any suggestions?

I live in my Tevas down here! I just got back from Epcot for my afternoon walk (might as well walk around world showcase if I need the exercise anyway!), and my Tevas never fail. I would suggest, whatever shoes you wear, make sure they're broken in, or you'll be buying bandaids in the park.
