I am wondering what class of vehicle I need to get in able to have enough seatbelts for our family. Am I going to have to get a minivan (kinda pricey) Is it going to be possible to rent a vehicle and stay in my $200-$250 budget for 8 days?
thanks for all you awsome disers help!!!!

definitely not a compact (neon, focus). Most are only seats for five. I don't know for sure, but will guess a mid-size(grand am, stratus)- if not a full-size sedan most ceratainly will seat 6.

This post will bump yours so someone who knows will be able to see it more quickly.

Six is tough and minivan would be preferred method. You will get six seatbelts elsewhere only in either cars that still have the full length front seats (rare and when available usually it is a costly rental car like a Ford Crown Victoria or Lincoln although it may be less than mini van) or an SUV that seats 7 or 8 (the huge ones that cost more than renting a minivan when available).

Nevertheless, don't rule out the minivan or possibly that Ford Crown Victoria. You need to watch prices closely particularly as you get closer to your date. Thus, get to one of the websites that provide rental services (like Travelocity.com) or the car rental sites themselves and keep track. Prices can change often and can drop significanly in the last month or two before a date. Note, I am not clear what you mean by 8 days. If you are going 7 nights/8days, you will be renting for a week (like a Sat to a Sat). In June, we got a minivan through National for about $240 a week after all costs and fees were added--there was a brief period of time about 3 to 6 weeks before we went that the price was there; before then the quoted price was almost $150 more.

We rented a Yukon XL (full size sport utility) last summer for 8 days from Budget, but the price was killer. I think we ended up paying around $800 for it. A premium car, luxury car, or minivan would probably be best. We are renting a Cadillac DeVille from National Emerald Choice in December for 8 days for about $600.

(as in geriatric, I'm afraid). The only -car- with that many seatbelts is going to be one with a front bench seat.
These are going to be at least full-sized, most likely from GM or Chevy. One thing to be aware of, if you are using a carseat for a child, is that many of these cars have their rear seat belts mounted forward of the bight, which often means it's nearly impossible to tightly secure a childseat.

Otherwise, you'll need a vehicle with two rows of rear seats, such as a large SUV or a mini-van.

You will not find seating for 6 in any compact, and not in any mid size I can think of. They all have the console in the center. You may have some luck with SOME full size cars, but not all. I know the Impala has a bench seat option, but some may be equiped with a bucket seat setup. The same is true for the Buick Regal and the Century. The Pontiac Grand Prix always has a console in the middle. Most of the premium cars will have the bench seat, but again you cannot be assured of that as many offer the bucket set up as an option. Most of the car rental companies post information about the vehicles that they rent and this includes the seating capacity. For example on National's website they say the premium class will seat 6, whereas on the Dollar Site the premium class will only seat 5. I would go by what these say more than anything, because you can insist on a certain amount of seats based on what is being advertised on the web page. For example if you go to National and reserve a premium, you could ask for and expect a vehicle with seating for 6.

The LeSabre we rented in May only seated 5. (split seat w/console in the front)

We have a Mercury Sable and it has 6 seatbelts. They all have shoulder belts as well as lap belts EXCEPT for the center front seat, that one only has the lap belt. Our console in the middle of the front seat folds under so that the 6th person can sit there. My 10 yr old son fits there just fine with my DH and I in front, when we have other kids with us, in the back seat. Good luck with finding the right vehicle for your trip!

I also need to seat six and have always had luck with hertz. They often have free upgrade coupons around and you can book a full size and get the free upgrade to the premium, which is the crown victoria/grand marquis. It is not guaranteed, however so you might want to have a back up reservation.

Most full size cars have a center console that will not let you seat 3 in the front. As Sgtdisney said, check with the rental company to see how many fit in the full size.

Hi,
I was just at National, They have a Chevy Astro (mini van)
for 1 week 498.00 total incld. taxes. It is a bit pricey.
However, they seat 7.

If you have 2 drivers available, maybe 2 smaller cars would work. Of course, then you would have twice as much gas to pay for, twice the parking if you need to pay. I think the minivan would be your best bet, especially if you will have much luggage.

Chevrolet Impala, Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis. I've used them all and all are quite roomy, seat six, and considered premium class. However, with special coupon upgrades, you may be able to fit in your budget. For example, last time I rented a Grand Marquis, the site (Avis) was running a special and the price was better than some smaller cars. Compare to prices on minivans and see what's best. Check out all the major websites, sometimes they offer free upgrade on special on these cars.

We rented a lincoln towncar and we it fit six nicely! and roomy, and we got it for 372.00 though priceline for 10 days.
