Just curious. I see lots of folks who work or have business in what they describe as "recession proff" ... What fields or businesses are these exactly?

I don't know but I'd say doctors maybe?? People will (unfortunately) always have health issues.

I look at DH's as relatively recession proof.

He works for the government, for the treasury.

Repo-man

&

Govt. employees.....

The rest of us? not so much.

Prostitute.

DH is an expert in a specific IT field and I actually read not too long ago that it was considered recession proof. Unfortunately, he does this job for a bank so as long as the bank stays afloat, he's good! :p

I've always heard insurance is recession-proof.

I've also heard candy - not the expensive stuff, but the everyday stuff - is recession-proof.

I'd say a lot of municipal government jobs. Maybe the individual person might not be recession proof but we are always going to need and pay for water plant operators, garbage services, fire fighters and police officers, ertc.

My husband is a correctional officer for the federal goverment....his job isn't going anywhere! :thumbsup2

My job however...:scared1:

Plumber, Electrician, skilled trades like that

Auto Mechanics are golden at the moment because people are holding onto their cars longer than ever.

Alternative Energy research is in a huge growth -- solar, nuclear, wind

Education in some areas ... math and science, Special Education. You have to be willing to move to where the job are however. There are some areas of the country where it is very difficult for Teachers to find jobs.

The Post Office

Health Care.... home health care and geriatrics are in big growth

I just heard this on CNN this morning. Education, government, health industry are pretty safe right now.

Yes.

And believe it or not, women will always find money to get their hair done. Always always always.

And like the skilled trades listed above, it's the skill youre paying for, so the parts (or color, or bleach) cost little to nothing, so those professions can always drop their skill cost to accomodate a client, and still come out ahead.
