I was thinking the other day that a high-quality mattress and expensive 600 thread-count sheets are worth every penny to me. :goodvibes

On the other hand, I don't see any difference between cheap-o pedicures and expensive ones. I will only pay $20 for my pedicures.

What items and/or services are you willing to pay top dollar for?

I wont buy cheap shampoo / hair products, at all.

:confused3

I pay top dollar for diapers (I use Pampers only), toilet paper, paper towels and kleenex. And I suppose I pay a lot for beauty products but I don't buy the MOST expensive of those.

I don't mind buying store brand medicines (tylenol or allegery meds). That saves us a bunch. I've found a lot of things in the new Target brand Market Pantry that are really good and so much cheaper than the name brand.

High quality mattresses and high thread count Egyptian cotton sheets.

High quality furnishings in general.

A good hair stylist.

Good quality clothing. I tend to buy "classic" styles and wear my clothes for years, so spending more for better quality works out in the long run.

High quality skin care products.

Nikkor lenses rather than "off-brands." Hoya filters, same thing.

On the other hand I buy store brand milk, eggs, butter, chicken, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, etc. I buy store brand veggies unless I've got a coupon. I tend to buy cheap earrings--BOGO at Claires or whatever. I'm not a "brand name" handbag girl. Most of my bags come from Kohl's, on sale. Usually one, maybe two a year. And every pen I own was stolen from a hotel room. :rotfl:

Pet food
medical care for us and our pets (I go out of network for my rheumatologist)
just like the OP, high thread count sheets are SO worth it
Clothing that FITS WELL

My car (Honda Odyssey). I'm all for off-brand clothes/food/medicines, but when it comes to transporting my family around I want the safest vehicle I can find.

Definitely mattresses. However, for the sheets I go to the outlet mall down the road. Furniture tends to be a higher end thing - not the really expensive stuff, but not the assemble-it-yourself stuff from Wal-Mart. A friend of ours owns a furniture store, so that helps... :)

Work boots are definitely a high end item, as are sneakers and most shoes.

There are some foods and cleaning things that I am particular about the name brands (Kraft Macaroni, Scott toilet paper....) Other than that, I'm a name brand shopper.

:scratchin So you think using a bar of Zest isn't a good thing???? :rotfl2:

I will spend a lot on a mattress because I have a bad back. Furniture because I want it to last and be good quality. Services like movers--I'll pay someone to do it all because both dh and I have bad backs. :teeth: Well worth the money to have some young guys do it for us although I have to physically restrain dh from doing it.

I won't spend a lot of money on a purse. To me, they're basically all the same and I just need something to carry stuff around in. No reason to shell out $300 for one.

Forgot to add: SHOES...I need Dansko and Clark's if I'm going to be on my feet an extended time.

home and car repairs-much less costly to get it done right the first time. some furnishings like carpet-i want the durable stuff that i'm not going to have to replace in a shorter period of time. major appliances. with furniture it depends on the purpose and the item. if it's something that i know will be replaced in a few years (youth type stuff, patio furniture) i go for the good value-if it's a longer term investment i look for quality-but i don't nesc. go for the 'brand name'. thats a throw back to working in furniture retail-i remember the 'name brands' that sold identical items (manufactured the same in the same factory) under less popular brand names to be marketed to less 'high end' stores. so as an example-while i could have paid an arm and a leg for the sectional i bought at one store listed as a 'lane sectional'-i went to another that carried the same item under the 'action sectional' brand with the same warranty and service resources as the 'lane' name and saved close to a thousand dollars. same with mattresses-i go to the corporate web site and see what names the company is marketing under and compare the items/prices (the store i worked for was a privately owned chain-and depending on the 'market' we put the same mattresses in all the stores but they went by different names and at very different prices-but with the buying power the company had the price they paid to have that 'brand name' on the higher cost ones was next to nothing).

i do only buy 'puffs' brand tissues-started the kids as infants on them and have never had to deal with kids afraid the tissue would hurt their noses :teeth: and i do brand name on items that i just don't care for the taste of comparable brands.

Jeans. I will spend $100-$300 on a nice pair of jeans any day. They fit me, they are comfortable, cute, they aren't scratchy, and they come in my size!

Work on my home (landscaping, renovations, etc.) -- I'd rather pay extra and have it done right. :)

Ive recently become a Bare Minerals snob ;)

Also high thread count sheets ( pilled up sheets? YUCK!)

good furniiture ( not the very high end, but I shop for what I want for a long time and get a deal on it)

home repairs definately. Too many fly by night fix it men in the world

Definately TP!

I use coupons on most everything else so I still get a great deal on the rest of stuff but Im not opposed to store brands on most everything else :)

Running shoes, sports equipment, toilet paper, toddler wipes, toothpaste, pots and pans.

I agree with quality sheets as a must have. Even though I am always on a budget, I just can't force myself to buy generic groceries. In fact, I try to buy mostly organic for my kids which is sometimes a hardship. Also, I have to have good coffee beans and half and half. Non-dairy creamer is a non-food as far as I am concerned.

My hair colorist

Tires

Certain grocery store items:
Charmin toilet paper
Bounty paper towels
Tide detergent
Cascade dish detergent
Heinz ketchup

Worth the price are good peanut butter, cat food, salon services, electronics...

I won't buy my kids expensive clothes (what is that all about?) because they can stain, mangle or outgrow the pricey stuff just as quickly as the reasonably priced stuff and they simply don't care about status yet. :)
