What items do you need at TL or BB?

Hi everyone,

Maybe this is a strange question, but okay, I just want to know what to bring with us. Ofcourse my swimsuit and sunscreen.
But do I have to bring my own towels?
And about those swimsuits, here in Europe it is very common for men to swim in Speedos. But I have read some funny postings about that, does my husband better bring some swimshorts with him?
And where do I keep my bags when we both go swimming?
Are there lockers?
Thanks everyone and nice advice is allways welcome ofcourse:wave2:

Hi There, FromEurope! :wave2:

You can bring your own towels to the waterparks, or if you are staying on property, you can also bring towels from your resort. They have a towel rental available for a coupel of dollars a day (I'm not sure how much because I usually bring towels from my resort.)

They also have lockers to rent, I think it might be 5 dollars and you get a couple of bucks back when you return your key at the end of the day. They have small lockers and larger lockers. Depending on how big your bags are, they may fit in a big lockaer, or, if you don't have much in terms of valuables, you might find it more convienent to just leave your bags on your lounger chair with your towels.

Speedos...hmmm. I'm not sure how to advise you there. In Europe they are quite common, but in the US, most males wear swim trunks. There are quite a few people from Europe at the waterparks, so it's not uncommon to see men in Speedos. But if you husband is the kind of man who prefers to blend in, he may want swim trunks.

Oen thing I would definitely recommend is watershoes (because the pavement can be very hot) and sunscreen.

Have a great visit to WDW and the United States!

I'd go with swim shorts... he'll appreciate it when he goes on some of the rougher flumes! They could destroy a speedo, and your man could be left wearing nothing but a sheepish grin! :teeth:

Not a dumb question at all!

There is locker rental and towel rental. We usually pack a beach towel from home, but as mentioned, you can use your resort towels.

They have floatie vests for kids available (I think you either give a refunable deposit or leave your room key). I don't think they allow you to use your own PFD's, but I have seen kids with their own floaties & things.

Sun screen, sunglasses, water shoes (yes, the pavement can get quite HOT!), a mesh bag or backpack to carry stuff in, maybe a hat or cap or visor, A WATERPROOF CAMERA (disposable).

Hmmm. How does Hubby look in a Speedo? About 7 yrs. ago was my first time to see a guy in one (this was @ BB), and I was a little taken aback (but this guy looked good in it, so....), but now that I've been exposed (so to speak), I don't pay too much attention any more. It's just whatever he (and you, of course) is comfortable wearing.

Now as for us ladies, again it's personal preference, but I've heard stories of ladies in 2-piece suits loosing tops on some of the water slides (but that's anywhere), and there's one lady on this board who unstrapped the neck strap on her 1-piece, and ended up showing more than she intended when the top ended up at her middle! (her posts about it are hillarious)

Have fun!

Thank you very much for your postings.
So I have to buy some watershoes and swimtrunks for my husband? Okay, but is it possible to buy those at WDW?
Our summer here only lasts for about 4 weeks, so items like that are rare in the Netherlands:(
I am looking forward to be in the sun and have a swim!!
We've never been to a WDW waterpark, so I cannot wait to go there. Byebye:wave:

When you come to the States, you'll find lots of stores that carry swimsuits and the like - especially in Florida, where it's always beach weather :sunny: ! I suggest planning a stop at WalMart - the prices are great, the selection should be pretty good, and you can pick up watershoes there as well, if you like. Me, I go with a pair of cheap flipflops (some people call them zoris or shower shoes) - they are about a dollar, and slip on and off very easily. They are more comfortable than watershoes to me.

Have a great time!

Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach both stock a wide range of branded swimwear (No Fear and Quicksilver are names I've bought in the past) - so if you get there without, you can always pick some stuff up at the park.

You can also buy watershoes and flip flops at the parks. You can wear flip flops and they are cheaper, but I like watershoes because they won't come off your feet as you're going down the slides. I guess it all depends on what you're most comfortable with.

Do they sell the disposable underwater cameras right at BB?

I can't say, because I've aways brought my own and never had to shop for them. But I would be very surprised if they didn't.

There was another thread about disposable underwater cameras a couple of days ago. A couple of the posters recommended the Fuji brand, because they said the lens on the other brands fogged up.

Yes, they do sell dispoable cameras underwater and regular cameras at both BB and TL. However, I always suggest that you buy them ahead of time as they are very over-priced there.
I always bring my TL water-wallet too. It's easy to carry all of your money, room key, and park pass then and they never get wet. You can buy one at BB and TL for about $5.00.
Hope this helps!

Hey, if your DH is comfortable in a Speedo, then no real need to purchase another bathing suit. He won't be alone.

I find it interesting to watch all the people from different countries, backgrounds, etc. at all the WDW parks. I was just saying to my DH, that it is amazing that people from all over the world come to WDW. It's one of the things I enjoy about my trips there, the diversity.

I just wanted to agree with the other posters who think that water shoes (the sole is rubber and the top part is mesh) are great for the water parks. Not only are the surfaces hot, but I also find them rough in places. If you want to go straight to the water parks I would recommend you buy the water shoes right there at TL or BB.

There's also a great little waterproof holder about the size of a deck of cards that you can wear around your neck. We put our room keys, a credit card, and some cash in a small ziplock bag and then put the bag inside the waterproof holder. (the holder alone is not quite as waterproof as it could be). This allows us to leave a swim bag packed just with our own towels and sunscreen and maybe hats on a lounge chair and not have to worry about renting a locker or towels. At the beginning and end of the day the lines for lockers can be fairly long. The waterproof holder is also available for purchase at the water parks.

I wouldn't worry about the speedo, but some people may give your husband a second look. If that doesn't bother him or you, I wouldn't worry about purchasing a special bathing suit just for WDW.

Have a great trip!

We saw some people wearing socks (like peds with a cushioned bottom) instead of water shoes - that might work for you. Cheaper and much smaller to pack. A couple of weeks ago, we went to Blizzard Beach when it opened and left around noon when the lines got long. It was VERY HOT but we had no trouble going barefoot for that time. Think afternoons are worse as the heat builds up in the concrete. Also, a small locker was $7, with $2 refunded when you turned in the key (and that's a pretty good sized locker - not tiny).

Have fun!

Hi everyone,
This is going to be a fantastic trip:D
I do have some knowledge about the waterparks right now.
Just from only reading your postings. The DisBoards are really great!!!!
My DH bought his pair of swimshorts, they were on sale for only $12. So that won't be a big loss if he looses them on the slides:D
But I sure hope for him (and me) that that isn't going to happen.
We are doing the single digit dance now, so I allmost cannot wait to go. Not only for the waterparks, but for everything to experience at WDW.
Maybe we'll see you there
