What it would cost to live at WDW

Ok, so I'm a nerd. Just out of curiosity, I played with a points calculator to see how many points it would take to "live" at WDW for a year.

For the curious, it appears if you want to live in a grand villa overlooking the MK at BLT, it would take just 48083 points. So to buy into the program at $99/point that would cost just $4,760,217.00 + tax and closing costs. On the plus side, I guess it would cost a lot less to live there each year thereafter until your lease term expired. ;)

So, on the plus side, a cast member living at BLT would have a great commute to work. Also, your utilities and occasional maid service are included. On down side, you'd probably need to ask for one heck of a pay raise to cover your housing expenses.

I wonder, if you stayed long enough, if you'd have voting rights in the Reedy Creek Improvement District.

Anyone else ever look up geeky and probably unobtainable stuff like this?

Be well,
Bob

And the cost of dues over the length of contract, even with 0% inflation in dues, would be ????

It's a darn good question. Have they even released dues for BLT? I haven't followed it that closely.

Since it's a new resort, we would hope the dues would be lower to start with. But lets conservatively estimate it at $5/point. Your next year of living there would cost just $240415.00. What a bargain. ;)

Of course, as you noted, the dues will likely increase with inflation. So just think of that as an annual raise in your rent.

and that's the very reason I fight the urge to add on! In answer to your question, yes my son a huge fan of Walt's, thinks up these scenarios constantly but then again he's only 12 and dreams of living in Disney.

Well, it seems like that confirms it. I've always suspected I was 12 year old trapped in a 30-something body. :)

Times 49 years, assuming no inflation that's $11,780,335.00
Sounds like a reasonable sum to me!!:lmao: But alas, I guess, that's why they limit us to 30 days at a time.:sad2: They are afraid someone may do just that.

OK, lets all be "reasonable". Shouldn't we have been looking at the 2 bedroom scenario at OKW or SSR????

Love this thread. Good to know we aren't the only Disney geeks.

There are length-of-stay restrictions in our CC&Rs to prevent the issue of 'residency.' You'd have to pack up and move periodically.

Over the years I've read several posts of retirees w/ numourous points who come and spend a couple of months at OKW. So from your post, they have to stay offsite in between the 60 days?

Hmmm...I'm looking for the info on the maximum, consecutive days allowed for DVC. I could swear I've read there is a 30 day limit for one resort. Maybe, I'm wrong. I can only find the maximum amount of points allowed for ownership. The current limits are 2000 points at any one resort, and 5000 total points.

There is always a break on the cruise ships....

You could also go from one resort to another each month. :thumbsup2Possibly taking a cruise in between. ;)

That's too funny, I was thinking that the other day, but was too lazy to look up the different seasons/weekends, etc. You could live on a Disney cruise ship for less than the yearly MF, and get free food 24/7!

How I envy them. But I imagine the annual maintenance fees are murder.

But if you've got the money and don't wanna leave it to your kids...heh. Why not? :thumbsup2

I'd like a 2 bedroom, but a 1 bedroom would be just as nice :) I've also wondered how something like this could work out. now i gotta figure how far 1000 points would take us. I love these senarios:thumbsup2
Unfortunately, the POS doesn't allow is to use DVC as a legal residence... :surfweb:
