Our electric bill is fairly constant all year - last month was $112 (we were gone for a week and only use the air conditioner when it is really hot or humid.) Our gas bill is what can get really high in winter with gas heat, hot water, and dryer - up to $350 a month in winter, $50 or $60 in summer. We do have several computers, TV's etc, and a freezer, but use a lot of compact fluorescent light bulbs. There are 5 of us.
Edited to add - that $112 electricity bill was for 1080 kWh. Maybe it is the price that is different, not how much each of us is using?

The electric company offered us the monthly average thing- we pay 204.00 a month year round. 2 people, 2500 square feet, all electric, large work shop we air condition, hot tub. We have a Florida heat pump, computer, 5 TVs, 2 refrigerators, freezer, wine cooler, washer/dryer sees a lot of action. We also have switched over to the compact flouresence bulbs all over, including 8 outside spot lights (live in the woods;we light up the place like a prison yard, LOL!).
I do keep the house fairly cool. :rolleyes1

249.00 for 6 people for a 4000 sq ft house , i do laundry every day.

Our electric bill runs $100 to (in summer) $130; the house is about 2400 sq ft/ 4 people. But we only run 1 window a/c and our dryer and stove are gas. Propane runs us about $20 monthly.

But ask me about me heating bill!

The 4 of us average $400 + per month. The main offenders in our 4,000 ft home are the two central air units and the heat pump for the pool.

I think you need to add some options to the poll. Mine is 260$ monthly averaged amount. Hopefully that will be accurate and I wont get a huge bill in Feb (the month I have to pay the difference) Last year I ended up with a huge deficit!

If you are talking about electricity, pop on over to the DIS Budget forum. There have been several electric bill complaint threads. So it seems you aren't alone.

I also remember one of the threads from maybe a month ago, offering ways to reduce electric bill. Its amazing how many things still draw electricity in our homes today even when they are off. Also, tips on how to change your computer settings to take advantage of energy saver mode if you leave it on all day & night.

last month's electric bill was $114 with central air and 4 people in 1950 sq 4 yr old home.

I was just lamenting my newest electric bill that I received Saturday. $319.00. I just about had kittens when I opened it! 2400 sq ft house, 2 adults, 2kids, 2dogs. Thermostat set on 80 upstairs, 79 downstairs (78 downstairs at night). Gotta love these wonderful Texas summers. :sunny:

Electric bill: $45
Gas: $63 (budget plan)
1900 square feet
No airconditioning
2 weeks out of the month - 1 adult, 3 kids
other 2 weeks - 1 adult
After looking at the previous bills, I'm feeling pretty good about mine

We're 3 people in a 2400 sf house. Last month our electric was about $95 and our gas was around $20. I hate a/c so it only goes on when it's unbearable outside. We are also in a brand new house so all the appliances are energy efficient ones.

My bill incluses gas and electric. We pay a set monthly amount year round and then after the year has ended the bill is adjusted and we pay the difference or get a refund. Our bill for each month starting this month is $336.00. We have 5 people and our house is about 2200 sq. ft.

I am a newly single mom of 4 and our electric bill was 562 this month and I thought I was going to faint.

Our electric bill last month was $967.00 :faint: 3500 sq ft house with 4 people. We are home all day though, DH works out of the house. Plus we have three a/c units and a pool. This is our first year in this house, and I about died when we got the bill!

My bill was $154 for Aug. my bill usually runs about $80 when I am not running the air conditioner.... 3 people here..

Last month was our highest ever. $175. We run the central air all the time because I am perpetually hot. I keep it at 65. There's just me and DH right now - 3 cats. :) The house is about 3,000 sq ft. Electric stove and dryer.

In the winter, it goes down to about $80.

Too @#$ high!! 145.00 last month and seems to go up every month. Only used the AC 5 days. 5 people, 3 computers, one playstation and a fairly small 4 bedroom. (top floors of a two family house).

with finished basement - 2300 sq ft - electric bill is 70-80 all months except the summer. With AC the bill jumps to $120/month.

To heat the home in the winter - Well with the cost of propane it is up to $140/month.

Youch!!!!

We just got our bill yesterday, I can't wait till Fall gets here!!

$630.00, 3,000 sq ft house with a pool, 3 adults - but our daughter just moved out to go back to college.

My last two bills were $150 and $98, the last one that was $150 I attribute to having a ton of company. Otherwise there is just three of us in the family and I would say we average between $98 and $125 a month, but that is purely a guess.
