Mine was set at 66 degrees until I got the gas bill this morning of $500:scared1:! I turned off all of the lights (electric bill was $150), and decreased the thermostat to 64 degrees. It is freezing in here now! What do you set yours at?

I feel your pain, we keep ours at 63 degrees but have a wood burning insert fireplace that we keep burning and that keeps it toasty when the fire is going. Of course it goes out in the middle of the night and 63 degrees gets bumped up to 67 in the am for about an hour until the fire is going again.

I recommend Cuddle Duds long underwear, they are thin and cozy and I wear them under all my clothes at home. I work at home and refuse to heat the whole place for just me for during the day.

Don't forget to turn off your computer when you're not using it. A lot of appliance are constant power suckers. I have mine on a power strip and turn the whole thing off when I am not using it.

68 degrees, we have gas heat in a 3-level 2700 square foot home and last month's gas bill was $79

where do you live though??

Us it's at 64 in NJ and cold- put on a sweater and some socks.

We have three zones. The bedrooms are set to 67, the family room is set to 70 and the remainder is set to 66.

We set ours on 66 at night; 68 during the day (winter). Our electric bill (house is completely electric) is $141 each month; we have budget billing and it can change a great deal from September (no heat, no a/c) and January (3 degrees outside right now)!

Our home is 2700 sq ft in Missouri.

Mine is set at 72 right now but we turn it down to 70 at night, sometimes lower. We have electric heat which is not nearly as warm as gas heat.

We're almost exactly the same but lately I've been bumping it up to 70 while I'm home and awake. Our gas bill was the same last month, too. We're in Northern VA where we still have snow from the snow storm of last month.

70 if we are home during the day, 66 at night and when we are gone during the day. The kids and I always have shirts plus sweatshirts on and are still cold unless it's at 70. Dh shovels snow with no coat on ;) We are in Mich.

I've NEVER had a bill for more than $375 during the very coldest month, and that is gas/electric combined. Now that we added more insulation, it's been about $225/mo the past couple of months. Did you check your reading and make sure it is accurate? Or is something leaking somewhere?

HOLY COW! I set mine anywhere from 72-76!!! Our gas and electric never goes over $300 with that and we are in a 2400 sq ft house.

Georgia. We pay more in the summer to cool it than we do in the winter to heat it but even with that it was a pretty cold December all through the South. Just ask anyone visiting WDW :thumbsup2

Since it's only the 2 of us and we have a thermostat in our bedroom we can set the heat, close the door and it really only has to warm up that 1 room before the heat will shut off. That probably saves us a lot in energy costs. Same thing downstairs where the computers and entertainment stuff are and where we spend most of our waking time. Each level has its own zone and if we shut the door we seal ourselves off from what's happening in the rest of the house so we're effectively only heating a few hundred square feet at a time.

68 right now...63 during the night and while we're at work. I came home early today and never adjusted the heat my toes are still cold...ceramic tiles were really cold at 63 degrees!

It's set between 59-64. We paid $2.69 a gallon from a discount oil company today, and it's supposed to go up another 20 cents in the next few weeks. We usually get 175-225 gallons every 4-6 weeks during the winter.

We heat over 2800 sq ft with a little Harmon pellet stove. We set the temp for 68 when we are here. It drops down to 64 when we are at work. My dh is a heating tech. and says that it really doesn't make sense to lower it too much when you are away, because it puts a strain on the equipment to bring the house back up to temp if the difference is really large.

We burn about one bag of pellets (40 lbs) per day when the outside temp is above 20 degrees. We burn about a bag and a half on the chillier nights when the temps are near 0 or below.

I like the pellet stove because it provides a place to really get toasty if you need to, while keeping the rest of the house comfortable.

If it is a sunny day I set it at 64 or 65. The sun warms the front rooms where I usually am during the day. IT has been so cold lately I've kept it at 66. When DH is home he puts it up to 69, which drives me crazy. We finished our basement so when the kids play down there I turn that heat up to 67. Luckily we are ahead on the budget plan so the big increase in the bill wont be too bad.

I'm cold reading all of your posts. Our house is 73 during the day and 68 at night. I don't know what our gas bill is but budget is $113 all year round and that includes our pool heater in the summer.

I don't like to be cold and it gives me headaches. Life's too short to freeze...

Ours has been set a 66 degrees since we turned our oil boiler on in October. We get oil delivered every couple of months...I payed $300 for our last delivery, two days before Christmas:scared1:

66 We just found out our oil co. which we prebought oil from is not honoring their contracts now, so it looks like we may be paying somewhere around $5.00 a gallon! The state attorney general is involved now.

Make sure that when you sign a prebuy contract that the company has it written on there how they are securing their funds (or something to that effect) We found that out the hard way. Who knew we needed to look for that? At least we didn't! Buyer beware!
