What is your temperature cut off for visiting the water parks?

I realize this is one of those questions that can have a very wide range of answers, but…

We are seasoned Disney SUMMER travelers. Our Thanksgiving trip will be a rare winter trip, however. If we were buying tickets, we wouldn't even consider thinking about adding the water parks option onto our ticket, but we all have premium APs where we have access to the water parks, and we love the water parks during the summer months. Actually, if given a choice between going to any of the theme parks vs. the water parks, I think my kids would unanimously vote to go to the water parks.

While I know the weather is impossible to predict during that time of year, I am curious as to how comfortable you can visit the water parks when it's not scathing hot outside. I know that the water is heated, but there's an awful lot of being half-in/half-out of water when you're at the water parks, and an awful lot of standing around in wet suit. If we're all shivering, I don't think it will be enjoyable. And while I'm sure being fully in the water is fun, I'm not sure if we want to make the whole water park visit about the wave pools or lazy river.

What's your comfort like when visiting during the winter months? Is it crazy to even think about visiting when it's in the 70s outside?

80's would be perfect, but I think we wuold do 75 too (if it is a full sun day).

Since you have passes its worth going for just a couple hours (even as a break from the regular parks).

Our weather is so crazy in Florida there is no telling if that week will be for bathing suits or jackets.

If the waterparks haven't been closed by the powers that be (as they are when the management deems it "too cold"), then its warm enough for me.

But we are from the frosty north, and we will swim in almost anything as long as we don't have to chip the ice off first :rotfl: .

In all seriousness.....we spent Christmas Eve Day at Aquatica one year, and it was marvellous.

So your number is 32F (0C).

My family went several years ago when it was in the mid 50's. I didn't go in the water but my DH and youngest DD did. We were 1 of 2 families at the park that day.

In December you never know but we are from the Northeast and happy to be in the sun. However hot it is you'll be surprised how empty the park will be compared to summer.

I'm a southern girl. It has to be at least in the 80s outside for me to consider swimming. No way would I swim in November.

I think anything less than 80 is too cold for my taste at the pool.

NJ family here... we have vacationed the first two weeks of Nov. for the past 10 years.. and have swam multiple times during every trip..:cool1:

Now this year we are going during Christmas/NYE so I am praying we get some days 70 sunny and above.. I cant see myself swimming in temps less than that... and we have Discovery Cove booked for Christmas Eve/ :beach:

For me, it would be about 75 degrees. And it would depend on how breezy it is. 75 degrees and no breeze is fine. 75 degrees and breezy - probably too chilly to walk around with wet skin from slide to slide.

We actually swam back in 2010 at Coronado springs, and it was only 65* out. The lifeguards said that if it were to drop to 60* then contractually they would have had to shut the pool. They were all in red sweat suits and jackets, pretty comical. Also my twins loved the slide soo much that they kept wanting me to go over n over. After getting in n out 3 or 4 times , it got cold enough from the pool to the top of the slide that I had to let them go by themselves. I stayed in the pool from the neck down, which was perfect. Head was a lil chilly though. Lol

I'm hoping for at least 75* this nov. So that we can use our PAP for 1 day at least.:confused3

Thanks for the feedback. It seems like it would need to be a very sunny and warm 75 degrees for a water park--especially with so much shade--so I'm going to cross my fingers for a Thanksgiving heat wave and pray for temps in the 80s!

I have no doubt we'll be able to swim at the resort. With the heated pools and being able to run back to the room right away to warm up, I'm not that worried about that, but going to a water park is definitely different than swimming in a pool at the resort. :thumbsup2

For the resort pool, anywhere in the 70's as long as it wasn't breezy (the kdis would probably go even cooler). But for a waterpark, where like you said you are half wet and in and out the whole time, I would say at least 80, no breeze, and sun.

We are in the same situation as you with the PAP's and normally visiting the waterparks a lot. I have a couple days with park plans, but can change them to water park days if weather permits.

I'll get in the pool if it's 70F with any amount of sun out, but for the water parks I'd prefer 75-78F and full sun because of the in-and-out of the water.

I went to Typhoon Lagoon on a January day when it was 78F and sunny, and it wasn't bad at all, IMO.

haha yes this is us too... we're travelling down the end of January, where temps at home will be around -45 or so. Our normal summers where we are swimming in our natural lake range around the 70 degree mark... so if it's 60 degrees, and the pools are indeed heated, you betcha we'll be jumping in. LOL! That being said we aren't getting the waterpark option just in case it's wicked 'cold' Florida weather, I'd rather just swim at the resort that way I'm not wasting any money.

Hoping for some 70+ degree days when we are there 11/8-11/14! Kids really want to do Blizzard Beach for first water park visit! We're from MA and jump in our own 55-degree pool on "opening day" so they will swim in just about anything!
