What is YOUR Pet Peeve When Traveling @ WDW??

This is a great thread! It has definitely made me a lot more aware of things I might be inadvertantly doing that might annoy other people.

Sometimes, I wish people would stop and think before discussing awful things in a loud voice in a public place. When I visited WDW this past September, I went to Boma for dinner. There was a table of four diners right next to mine, and one of them, a woman with a voice like a foghorn, was discussing the death of a beloved family pet in quite graphic detail.

It's an inappropriate topic of conversation for the dinner table (IMHO), but more than that, it really struck a sensitive nerve with me. I had a geriatric cat at home with a number of medical problems. (I had been planning this WDW trip for ages, and my family had to push me out the door to get me to go.) Although Tibbles was doing okay at that time, her doctor had told me that her end could come at any time--two days, two weeks, two months, or two years. (She died, in my arms, peacefully, a month after I got back from WDW)

So there I was, trying to have a good time, but worried about my cat, and being subjected to a conversation about a pet that died suddenly when its humans went on vacation...there was literally no way of not hearing what was being said. It was horrific.

I asked for another table, and must say, the waiter and manager could not have been nicer and more supportive. But it cast a complete pall over my meal and the rest of my evening.

So that's my pet peeve: people who have foghorn conversations about ghastly things in public. At mealtimes, no less.

My pet peeve: I know that some children are afraid of the dark, and I understand that completely. But please don't let your 11 or 12 yo children light giant flashlights in the TOT during the dark parts. It COMPLETELY ruins the experience for everyone else in the elevator. On one of my rides with my son there were two girls about 12 yo with flashlights doing this. A pen light maybe for a very small child but that would even be annoying I think.

Unfortunately, having well behaved kids in a dining environment requires discipline and practice well before they ever go to WDW. Believe it or not, some kids almost-NEVER eat with their parents. At least in the previous story the parents were trying in some form or fashion to keep their kids under control (although unsuccessfully) I really hate it when parents see nothing wrong with their kids behaving like wild beasts. I knew one lady that thought it was "cute" when her child was literally swinging from the lighting over a table at Home-Town Buffet.

I too appreciate good table manners and behavior from my child. He was 3 adn 1/2 when we went in November and he acts like most 3 year olds but if he started getting out of hand i would remove him from the restaurant even if it meant I didn't eat. Although, I have to admit some people warn me that I sometimes expect him to behave like a much older child than he really is. In my defense I think it is better to expect more from him and hopefully i will get what he is capable of doing.

ChairbornRangr...I know what you mean about kids going out with their parents, unfortunately ;) I'm a single mom and a lousy cook so my son knows more sit down restaurants than most adults. When you ask him where he wants to go he never says McDonald's!! lol!

I agree that ill mannered children in restaurants are annoying, but there are often adults who are the same way! But when I'm at disney I just consider them part of the show, I sit back and laugh at them!!!

I have been reading this thread and enjoying it for weeks, ita about parade spots and such. The topic of restaurant manners made me want to chime in. My girls and I have been eating out with friends since they were about 2yo and 15mos - lil sister just has to tag along with our friends! We do a mom kids night out about every 6 weeks and Mom only about every 8 weeks, both are wonderful.

Starting with "clap, clap, napkin on your lap - we have taught and enforced and modeled manners with our kids and they do know table mannners. IMHO there are as many adults at wdw as kids that need "to be removed". That said I am sooooooo, willing to take my kids from a situation and I just wish others would do the same. ITTBAB - if they don't like it TAke them outside.

When we went to Disney two summers ago, the whole area seemed to have a serious rodent issue. Everywhere we went, we were accosted by giant Mice!!! And some of these mice were wearing giant white gloves and scorcerers hats!!! I was appalled, I tell ya!!!

No seriously, my biggest pet peeve is how time seems to speed up while we're there. It is expensive, but totally worth every penny in my opinion!!! I can't wait to go back!! Now, if only I can figure out how to make to make time stand still....

Let's see...for pet peeves I wish that the monorail ramp at the Magic Kingdom wasn't so steep and that there was an elevator there like the one at the monorail ramp at Epcot. I also wish that people wouldn't knock on the door of the handicapped stall when I am using it. I really am moving as quickly as I can(smile), but it takes time to transfer back and forth and knocking on the door telling me that you and your child need to use the handicap stall NOW is difficult for me to deal with.

Oh, and I wish, wish, wish that there were more than ONE companion restroom in all of Downtown Disney (the one they have is at the far end of the Marketplace). Although I have to say that one of the more amusing interactions took place at the regular bathroom over on the West Side(smile).

I was washing my hands when someone else who was also washing their hands told me that she loved my highlights. I laughed and told her that they were natural highlights, as I am getting lots and lots of white hair.

She looked and me and said: "You don't have to lie about getting your hair colored, a lot of us do color our hair." I started laughing (smile), but there was no convincing her that my so-called highlights didn't come out of a bottle

:goodvibes

It has been fun reading all of these! Hubby and I are counting down to our trip in August, so here is our list of peeves:

1. People who are in a gol-darned hurry all the time! I know that people want to get the most fun for their money, but is all the rushing and pushing, etc. making your vacation any funner? I think not. I say, "Slow down!" Maybe you might miss a ride or two, but your time will be better spent and more relaxed, therefore, IMHO, more fun!

2. Parents who let their children run amok! If these young kids are such a handfull now, imagine what they will be like when they become teens! I think it is a sign of laziness or selfishness on the part of the parent when they don't discipline their children, or pretend not to notice that their children are causing a ruckus!

3. Common rudness! Such as cursing, cutting in line, etc. There seems to be a lot of people with a "So what? What are YOU gonna do about it?" attitude lately. And the truth is that the majority of us let them get away with it (myself included). Most of the time it doesn't seem worth it to take time out of our scedule to report these things, and the rude people know it. Maybe if more of us spoke up to those with the power to do something about it there would be less people trying to get away with it?

Just my 2 cents worth. I will certainly try (as I always do) to be courteous and helpful to others while on our upcoming trip.

This reminded me of Hocus Pocus--amok, amok, amok, amok, amok!!!! I've had to see that movie about 1,000 times and I just LOVE that part!!! Bette Midler finally just has enough of Sarah Jessica Parker!!!:hyper:

Funny Figaro. I keep getting asked where I got my perm. I don't have a perm it's naturally curly. People don't believe me.

My pet peeve is when people send me nasty pm's and then dont want to read my response. And also when people just step out in front of the stroller that Im pushing. I dont try to run others over but they do like to walk in front you.

Easy solution to those nasty pm's, block the sender.
I promise I will NEVER jump out in front of your stroller, I try to avoid them whenever possible. :)

LOL Gail thanks for not running in front of me. And its not a problem for me to get the pm but if the sender is going to dish it out then they should be able to take it as well.

this pet peeve is not confined to disney but why do people ( usually older men) sit at their table and blow their noses after dinner ? that makes me what to vomit so of course they are usually sitting at the next table.. and it's never a discreet little sniff, it sounds some giant honk, like they have been saving up since dinner the night before. Is it some kind of fanatical ritual with them? do they not know 1) no one want to hear snot rushing out of someone's nose while they arein the middle of eating and 2) that's what bathrooms are for (well *one* thing they are for)? sometime I am going to turn around and lose my lunch on their table and see how they like it.

I also agree about the kids running crazy ( although once when my daughter was 3 for some odd reason she decided to do that at Pizza Hut with me having to *chase* her around the table to grab her which embarrasses me to this day 23 yrs later)

about the strollers...if it is crowded sometimes they look like an "open space" cause you can't see them due to people on the sides of them. I think that might be why fire regulations won't let you have them in arenas and such (at least around here )

ok i'm done

Again, this isn't just Disney, but what is it with teenagers and spitting?? I have seen SO many teenagers (usually boys) spitting. I can understand if it is in a garbage can or something, but right in the sidewalk, and a lot just hork one up. EWWWW gross!!! And I have even seen grown men spit too, it is so disgusting!!!!

Jules

I hear some people's hair curls because it is embarrassed to be attached to someone who sends insulting PM's but won't even have the consideration or guts to read the responses to their unsollicited name calling attacks.

Hmm, that explains why I have stick straight hair, I try to behave nicely to others. ;)

Another pet peeve, people who cannot read or comprehend what something says. I guess the signs or written words mean nothing to them and they try to read between the lines or look for a hidden meaning. IE: don't feed the birds. Some people think that means "don't feed the birds if no one is looking". I think you get the drift.

that is a really nasty habit, right up there with spitting gum on the ground or putting it under the table at a restaurant. GROSS!!

I tried spitting when I was a teen, but, all I got was a wet chin.
Never was good at it, maybe it is a guy thing.

And this would be a GREAT reason for boys being in the womens restrooms. The grandfather was standing outside of the men's room waiting for his grandson. :(
