We like to tap into the local scene when we travel. Do you have any recommendations for local-to-the-WDW-area restaurants? We have a lot of the chains at home and would like to experience something unique, that we can't get at home.

Thanks!

Here's my favorite! You do need reservations! food is incredible!

Le Coqauvin
4800 S Orange Ave
Orlando, FL 32806

Chef Louis Perrotte has been performing magic in the kitchen at this cozy roadside restaurant for years, and many nights you'll spot chefs from other restaurants sipping a glass of pinot noir and enjoying the country French cuisine at Le Coq Au Vin. The décor is nothing fancy, but it matches chef Perrotte's simple creations. You must try the namesake dish of chicken and mushrooms in burgundy wine. The sweetbreads with morels is another classic that's often on the menu. We recommend the roasted veal tenderloin with artichokes and sweet peas or the salmon with horseradish-beet crust. For dessert you can't go wrong with a soufflé. The service is friendly and low key -- a perfect complement to the exceptional food.

Not sure if this is a chain restaurant or not!?? But this year my parents discovered Pebbles restaurant its over with in the crosswords plaza near the entrance to DTD.

Depending on how far you want to drive, there are three places that I would recommend...two are Italian and one is seafood. All three are located Kissimmee.

Pounders..is the seafood resturant. It is located on Central Ave which is off 192 (heading east from WDW). It is a small place and hard to figure out that it is a resturant...because it is also a fresh seafood supplier to many of the resturants and grocery stores in the area.

La Forcetta's is on South John Young (also off of 192) and is a little Italian resturant and pizza place run by an Italian family.

Tarentinos is the other italian resturant. It is locatd in the four points hotel on 192 opposite the Osceola Square Mall.

Last year we took the suggestion from these boards and tried Kool's! I am not a steak lover, but this was the best beef I have ever eaten. Our entire family has talked about it ever since we were there. It is a bit pricey as everything is a la carte. When you order a meat, that is all you get. Each side is added to the cost. However, it was worth every penny!

We found a local Italian Restaurant a few visits ago which has now become a regular on our visits to WDW. Giuseppe's I believe is the name. They make their own homemade rolls which are a hit with my family. They are located on 192.
