What is your favorite champagne?

I have trouble finding one that I like that I can tolerate more than a few sips of.

What do you recommend and why?

ETA: recommendations for sparkling white wine are welcome as well.

What don't you like about the ones you have tried and what are they? Do you prefer sweet wines or dry?

Not be too much of a geek, but Champagne is made only in France from the Champagne region. Anything else is just sparkling wine. So let us know what you have tried and disliked.

Not a fan of the drier wines. Favorite white wine is a riesling.

Honestly, I don't recall the brands of the champagnes (or sparkling white wines) I have tried. So, I think I'm going to have to start fresh.

Wiebel and Cooks make some nice reasonably priced and tasty champagnes (or sparkling wines if you prefer)

Higher up the price scale, Schramsberg makes some tasty ones also.

Asti Spimanti (too sweet for me) by various producers is sweet as is Moscato from Italy. For Champagnes look for the words "Sec" or "Demi-Sec" on the labels. They would compare with most slightly sweet Reislings. I think in the USA look for "Off Dry".

Try asking the person at the wine store, assuming they know what their talking about. As my signature suggest, try googling the subject. You will get more info than you will care to read.

Good luck!

Love Schramberg sparklers. Can't go wrong there.

I really like Krug. Had some at Remy and it was great! Not cheap though. There's also a special Moet that is supposed to be served over ice that is fantastic.

It's not technically champagne, but Asti Spumante is my favorite sparkling wine. I like the sweetness

Our go to is Ballatore Asti Spumante.
Around 9 bucks a bottle and gives you a great buzz.

LOL. To raise your wine geekdom, by a couple geeks, it is also legally Champagne if it is labeled California Champagne. Thanks to the Treaty of Versailles.

I had a chance to talk to someone at Korbel at a wine tasting event before a baseball game. I asked the question about selling in Europe, and their rep said that they conform to all applicable labeling laws for the country where the product is sold. They most definitely will not sell it as "California Champagne" anywhere that recognizes European viticultural regions.

I remember some controversy when Yves St Laurent fragrances had some perfume called "Champagne". The bottle looked like the top of a Champagne cork. They ended up renaming the brand.

I love prosecco, and I really love Cava. I think Cupcake makes a decent, cheap prosecco and I love Segura Viudas Cava.

I learn something new everyday.

It's only legally sold as such depending on the location. Most will call their product "sparkling wine" or maybe label it "method champenoise".

As far as the OP's question goes - maybe Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial or Mumm Cordon Rouge. Moët & Chandon White Star was very good, but it was something primarily made for the American market. I was a bit sweeter than most brut Champagne.

Kirkland Proseco (sold only at Costco.)

Cheap and very good. We aren't big wine or champagne drinkers but buy this for mimosas when we host a brunch.

I absolutely love Veuve Cliquot Brut. If you find champagne a little too dry, try adding some raspberry syrup or pomegranate juice to sweeten it up a bit.
