What is your favorite ATMOSPHERE restaurant?

Bumbers, is it common for Lasik to have that effect on people, or does it just depend on the individual? Also, what year did you have it done? I'm curious, because I notice they keep updating technology each yr on it.

Early '00s. It is a relatively common problem when negative effects happen, and it's one of the things the FDA has been paying more attention to. They were really overselling the cheerleadery aspects of lasik, while glossing over the other stuff (most of which I ended up dealing with), and that's just not good. I still have dryness that requires eyedrops semi-regularly (many people only use eyedrops for a month or so), I have a NASTY "bloodshot" part in my eye that developed b/c of the part where they use a blade or laser "knife" (even "bladeless" lasik requires a cutting part before they use the laser to do the correcting part) that causes irritation on my eye and my eyelid, I have extreme sensitivity to light (Lasik is touted as "never wear glasses again" but really you just go from prescription glasses to always wearing sunglasses...on the sunniest days, I even have to wear them indoors, sometimes), and it takes much longer to go from light to dark or dark to light than it used to. Oh, and halos around lights (though that was one side effect I mainly avoided). So...I had 20/20 vision, but a host of obnoxious, tiring, and nothing to do about it, problems.

Now I'm back to glasses b/c the astigmatism finally popped back up (when I had it done they couldn't fix it), though my vision only went to 20/30, b/c I have NO interest in doing lasik again.

The other people I know in 'real life' who had it have had nothing but good things. Though at least one has had two "touchups" b/c her vision got much worse...but she had even worse vision than I had (I was at 20/400 when I had it done) so I suppose that makes sense. And I don't think her vision ever got to 20/20 like mine did.

I'm just the "lucky" one!

Another place that I don't think has been mentioned already is Rancho del Zocalo. For a quick service restaurant, it's really got a great theme/decor going on, which really "comes alive" at night, IMO. There's a dining patio that's lit entirely by punched metal star shaped lanterns, which is a real treat to see at night. Also, it's right by Big Thunder Mountain, so that really adds to the atmosphere as well

I'm just looking through the Unoffical Guide, but can't find which restaurant does Surfs Up with Micky. Can anyone help me? thanks

It's at the PPH, it's taken the place of the Lilo & Stitch breakfast.

Surf's Up is fairly new within last few months I think....( so that could be why it's not listed in the guidebooks) I would suggest Cafe O'rleans also for outside sitting and for the excellent food and service they had!!!

I just reserved Blue Bayou for lunch at 11:30, and they open at 11:30. I made a note on my calendar to ask for a waterside table. It shouldn't be TOO difficult to get that, since we'll be there right at opening.

Try to get there and check in by 11:20 or so. There are 12 waterside tables, and currently there are less than 12 11:30 reservations, so if you make your desire for waterside known to the host when you check in you should get it.

As to an earlier comment, you cannot reserve waterside. You must check in with your entire party, and request waterside. The host will get an estimated wait time from the lead inside, and you can then decide whether you want to wait or not. It is always worth asking, because sometimes the response is "right away", although sometimes it is 20-40 minutes, often longer for parties larger than 4.

To add, when we have done this there were only two waterside tables that could handle six. So if you have bigger group you have less options. We got one of the two tables by doing exactly what JR says above - an 11:30 res and showed up at 11:10-11:15.

You used to be able to request waterside when you made the res. I have heard that this has changed to what JR describes where you cannot do it anymore when you make the res but must do it when you show up.

Not at all! That's the unfortunate stigma PPH has because a lot of folks perceive PPH as being so far when it is actually not. Sometimes facts and figures and maps can be intimidating, so just think of it this way - the GCH, DLH, DTD, and the gates to DL and DCA are all on one side of the street. I call that the "main hub of activity." PPH is right across the street (Disneyland Drive) from the GCH. So you could literally go out the front entrance of GCH and cross the street and the PPH is right there (that's what we call the "short cut" here on the DIS, and that is the preferred path to get to and from the PPH; if you follow the signs on the property of the way Disney would suggest you get to and from the PPH, it will seem like you are walking forever. Don't listen to Disney - take the short cut!! LOL!). PPH only suffers from the fact that it is across the street from the main hub of activitiy.

The Surf's Up with Mickey and Friends meal started in December last year, replacing the Aloha Breakfast with Lilo and Stitch (but keeping most of the same food items and characters, and the theme is still the same). So chances are, the Guidebooks had already been completed before this change occurred and they couldn't add it in the book.
