What is your earliest school memory?

I remember in nursery school when the firemen (yes, only men back then) came to teach us about “stop, drop and roll.”

I remember having a cubby in kindergarten to put my stuff in.

I remember the kindergarten teacher playing “Saturday Night” (Bay City Rollers). That’s how we learned to spell Saturday.

This was in the 1940’s. I got to go to pre-school for free about 20 minutes a day because my mother was a nurse there. She checked each child as they entered. Once she found a child with chicken pox, which meant job security. I remember playing with the blocks, but we always left before I could finish my building.

My Kindergarten teacher was my mom. It was a kindergarten/daycare combo so we still took naps. I remember getting in trouble for talking during nap time and my cot being moved into the director's office....lol. I also remember swimming in the pool they had.

It's actually Disney related. We were living overseas, and the school bus was a small black bus with Disney's Cinderella painted on the sides. I hated it. I also remember that the cafeteria had a Jungle Book mural painted along the walls. Or at least something similar.

Back in the states, I recall a field trip to a hospital. We were visited by ET and Big Bird. Strangely, ET was much taller and Big Bird was much shorter. When we left, the exit was near a diner/cafeteria that seemed to have been part of the facility. And there on the bar stools eating breakfast was ET and Big Bird with their heads removed and sitting on the bar. Red Pill moment!
