We are first timers and planning a trip in August...yes...I know it's going to be HOT!!!! What is your best advice for mom and two kids (11 and 15 years old) ?????

Thanks!!! :wave2:

Arrive at the front gates by 8:30 AM. Do the more popular rides first before the crowds arrive around 11:00 AM.

Either that, or stay onsite so you get front of the line all day.

We are from the UK and go in August too.

My advice would be to take your time and not try and rush through the parks too much, it will be hot as you say.
You will enjoy the whole experience so much more if you take things at a lesiurely pace.

Get to the parks early, take a break for lunch and return early evening, hopefully avoiding the worst of the crowds and the heat.

My best Universal advice is to stay on-site if at all possible and for an August visit, make sure you plan to stay long enough to tour the parks at a leisurely pace. When we go in July or August, due to the heat, we usually only spend 2-3 hours in the parks at a time. When you are on-site, this is not a problem because of the proximity to the parks and the unlimited express access to the rides and attractions.

I agree. staying onsite is key. when me and my family go we sleep in, and then go to USO, IOA in the same day. WE usually eat a later luch around 1:30-2:30, so they're no crowds

Carry water bottles! The Uni parks can get mighty hot in summer, and for some reason they don't have many drinking fountains (probably to increase sales of bottled water), so carrying your own bottles will make it much easier to drink enough to stay hydrated.

You can get your bottles filled with water and ice for free at any restaurant or fast-food place. The Uni employees are happy to do it for you.

Come to think of it, Uni employees just seem happy to do their jobs in general...

We're going down to Orlando in August (first and second week). I heard that the Southern kids are back to school at that time, and the parks should be less crowded. After reading some of your posts, I'm thinking it'll be crowded either way.

HELP!

THANKS!!

I think you're right-it will be crowded. We live in the south and yes, my daughter will be back in school. What I think most southerners do is try to get to Fl as close to the end of school(late May-early June)as possible.
We know that schools in the rest of the US tend to get out of school about weeks 2-3 in June. Unfortunately for ya'll, the majority of schools dismiss in that 2 week period. You might want to consider:
The temps and humidity rise deeper into the summer months-something to avoid if at all possible. It can be unbearable. Walk 2 feet and you are as wet as though you had been in a downpour.
Hurricane(s)also become more of a possibility later in the summer.
If you can, I would try to go as close to late June as possibleto avoid the increased risk of major hurricanes that Dr. Gray and other meteorologists have been discussing.
