Our bedroom is large and "national parks" themed, in an understated way. That mostly means lots of dark woods and low lighting--I tried to style it similar to the old lodges at some of the national parks, like Old Faithful Inn, Awani Lodge, etc. So kind of like Wilderness Lodge, haha. I have botanical prints on the walls, wood-framed vintage national parks travel posters above the bed, a couple old-style slingback safari chairs and oversized dark wood furnishings. We have an attached sitting area with a huge, comfy leather armchair and ottoman, a wooden side table and reading lamp, and an antique wooden desk with shelving where we display our travel books. The fact that this sitting area is also where we keep the treadmill and the Peloton hinders the ambience a bit, though!
My husband and I have what I call a "sleep incompatibility" so most nights I do my sleeping in my office upstairs. This room is small and cozy. I have a little daybed that is decorated with pillows from my travels, I have a mid-sized wooden dining table that I use as a desk, so the desk takes up a large part of the room, and I have a huge whiteboard over the desk. There is a faded-looking (but not actually old) Persian-style rug covering most of the floor, I have interesting framed posters and photos on the walls, and all in all it's a snug and very pleasant room. Eventually I'd like to get an artificial fireplace with a decorative mantle. I know the advice is not to sleep in the same room in which you work but it's not the least bit of a problem for me. I do everything in this room--work, read, yoga, watching movies, sleep. I love spending time with my husband and family but I also love having my own space where I can be all by myself whenever I want.
