What is your AC set at?

Central TX, 78 during the day, 76 at night for sleeping, plus ceiling fans in the four bedrooms and living room. Summer bill $150-175, but may be a bit higher in July/August.

It depends on the day. If we just need a little relief, we turn on the fan portion of our AC. If it's humid, we put it on low to get some of the moisture out. If it's just plain yucky out, then we crank it. We also use our shades, windows, and ceiling fans to circulate air. Our house gets direct sunlight all day, so we put the shades down at lunch and back up at dinner. I hate paying for AC, but we're pretty much all home all day (DH works nights), so we try to save where we can.

78. With the current temps outside sometimes the a/c is having trouble keeping up and it's still close to 80 in here if I do any laundry or we don't keep the door closed tight.

77 in the day, sometimes down to 76 at night if it feels too stuffy. Our temps have been abnormally high for June also, 92-98 every day. This is more like August in Atlanta.

I'm always surprised at how low people set the AC. The bills would make me insane...I'm such a frugal person. Not to mention the fossil fuels required to do so. It's just not necessary for our house. We live on a lake, and DH will tell the kids to go jump in the lake if they get hot...literally.:rotfl:

Anyway, if it's super humid outside, we set the AC at 80 to keep the humidity down in the house. If it's less humid outside, the AC gets set at 85. We open the windows at night to keep it cool (provided the humidity is low enough). Honestly, you get used to it.

We have ceiling fans we run, and that helps, and fans in the bedrooms as well.

Similarly, we don't set the thermostat very high in the winter either. Always at less than 70.

I can't stand getting too hot. We keep our AC between 72-73. We do use ceiling fans & tower fans upstairs too. Our house is pretty big though, 4700 square feet. We have 2 heat pumps. It seems to not cool off too well if the AC is higher.

We have two ACs. The upper level is at 78 at night and 81 during the day. The lower level reverses, 81 at night and 78 during the day. If I am going to be gone all day, I keep the lower one at 81 as well. We live in AZ- 105-110 most of the summer. If we set it any lower, our electric bill would be crazy. This is as hot as we can stand it!

During the summer we have the AC set to 80 (sometimes 81 if we aren't going to be in all day). We live in FL and if we had it lower it would run all day long.

Would I like it lower? Yes, I prefer cooler, but I prefer not to be killed by our electric bills! ;)

We do keep the fans on in most rooms and shut doors to non-used rooms.

I try to keep it set at 75. Sometimes if I am doing some heavy cleaning or cooking I set it at 72 for a while. We have ceiling fans in all of our bedrooms and in the kitcen so those are usually going all day too. Our electric bill averages $180 a month.

We are in north Texas and the humidity is killing me. I hate the heat. I keep our thermostat at 78 to 79 during the morning. Around 5 pm, when it's at it's hottest and while I'm cooking inner I got down to 76. At night it's around 79.

Our house is a 1500 square foot brick home. Our last electric bill was 217. In April and May it was averaging around 120.

In the winter I barely turn in the heat, we use the fireplace. I'd much rather be cold than hot.

We're in North Texas. We keep ours at 78 during the day and I have to wear a sweater :rotfl2: and then at night it goes down to 76 and I snuggle under the covers. :rotfl:

We keep ours at 78 here but have a window aircondition in our room for night..Works great for us..:cutie:

We use the a/c on an "as needed" basis. Most summer days we don't use it at all! When the humidity is very high and the house is above 88, then the a/c comes on. Usually it's set at 85 but if someone comes over who needs the house cooler, we'll bump it down.

On non-a/c nights, windows are open. We have windows on 3 sides of the house so we get nice cross-breezes. We close the east-facing windows and curtains in the morning, open them in the late afternoon, and close the west-facing windows and curtains as soon as the sun gets around to that side of the house.

I don't use the oven or stove on hot days. We have a nice grill :) I also don't use the dryer April-October. I run the dishwasher before I go to bed and open the door to let the dishes airdry.

It doesn't matter where we set it...it was 82 earlier, and I know it was set much lower.

We are renting an older house (until we move into our new place). We froze all winter and now we are roasting this summer.

Only a few more weeks here.

Back when we had a house with decent insulation...it was 72-74 for winter and 68-70 for summer.

What is AC????

TIC

We live at 8500 feet so a hot day is in the 80s. Most nights are in the 40s, so we leave the windows open all night and sleep with the comforters still on. Then we close up the windows in the morning until evening when the air is nice and cool.

I really feel for those of you in that live in the high temps and high humidity.

I was raised here in NC so maybe I tolerate the heat better but we have our AC set at 80 at all times. It's really comfortable in the house IMO and when you come in from outside it's downright cool! We do have ceiling fans in all of the rooms and we turn them on when we enter a room and off when we leave.

Just got our electric bill it was $66 - I was really happy especially as we've been in a hotter than usual month - daytime temps were 4 degrees hotter than this time last year and night temps were 6 degrees hotter!

In the winter we set the heat at 60 degrees and bundle up. Crazy I know but it does keep the bills down.

A ny'er here...we live on Long Island. I keep the a/c at 68 at night and about 72 during the day during the summer months. I hate the heat!!!! In the winter, I will keep it at about 64 to 66 during the day and 60 at night. so while I save on oil...I keep the electric company in business over the summer

We live in Southern California. Haven't turned it on since last summer. We will use it on a need to basis. Mostly turn it on over 95-100. Then we put it on about 79-80. Never use it at night except in rare instances where it is over 95. I don't want to pay the high bill so we try and suffer through it.

We keep ours at 75 during the day and 73 at night. We have $130 bills for a 4 bedroom brick house with crappy windows. lol

Gas is a whole other ball game. In the Winter, we keep it at 68, seal up all the windows, install draft sweeps & we still have $400/mo bills!
