When I get real hot I dampen napkins in drinking fountains and apply them to my wrist. Great tip that I got from here!:smooth:

Stay out of FL until it gets cooler! :hyper: I worked down in the Keys as a scuba instructor. It took about 2 weeks to get used to the heat, and then the 70+ degrees suddenly felt cold! I would come home from work and take an ice cold shower too. So anything water related will help (that spray area at Epcot would be nice) since water cools you off a lot faster than anything else. Of course you could always duck inside a nice a/c building!

We kinda do the same thing except we use a washcloth and put around our necks.

One other thing I realized is that if you wear a tank top you won't be as hot as you would be if you wear a tee shirt. Your arms are out and you feel a lot better. Too bad I didn't figure that out until our last day.

We just got back and we used a mister. It sprayed a fine mist on us and the children and really was great.

Water, water and more water. Wear loose clothing (tank tops is are great idea). Buy a mister fan and/or one of those little fans that hang around your neck. You'd be surprised how much air they actually put out. Wear a hat or sunvisor. Avoid the parks in the heat of the day. Use that time to go back to the hotel and rest.

Hydrate....a lot. Wear a hat with big visor. Get out of the parks mid-day and swim and rest. Have at least one sit-down meal in AC every day.

We stay out of Florida in June,July and August!! We are used to humidity and heat where we live but when we took all the normal precautions back in 2000 and both myself and my MIL both got heat exhaustion we decided it was not worth it anyomre so we do WDW during the other months!!

DW bought these neck coolers that look like a scarf rolled up. You soak them in water and their filled with gel that stays fairly cool. Works better than just an ordinary cloth or towel.

You would be surprised how much of a difference using an umbrella makes with the heat. Carrying a small pocket sized umbrella not only shields you from the Florida downpours, but will help you stay cooler in the heat. Try it!

I just got back from the heat of last week, 98 most of the time.
I love the heat and just got a little "dewy" on our day at Ak. My friend hates the heat. I bought him those gel wrist coolers and they helped some but on our third day there I brought along a hand towel from the room and wet it in the drinking fountain and put it on his neck. That worked wonders.
I came back to CT where it was in the 50's and I am freezing. I can't wait to get back to the heat again. Peggie

Drink plenty of water and avoid caffiene. You'll notice your body will cool itself more efficiantly when it has enough water. By enough I mean over 8 glasses of water. You should drink 8 glasses when youre in a normal temp, more when youre in the heat.

Caffiene works as a diuretic so you can lose the water youre trying to hydrate with.

I carry around half liter bottles. I drink at least 4 a day. I've noticed that when you are hydrated you just dont "feel" as hot.

*waves hi to the fellow diver*

(was the 70+ degrees the water temp on your dives? If so, you're very lucky (says he who took his open water course in 45 degree water, and did most of an advanced course in 39 degree water))

This hint is only works if you have a frig. wet a couple of wash cloths and put them in the freezer the night before. When you take them out in the morning, they will be frozen, but by the time you get to the Parks and start to feel the heat, they are perfect.

Like someone else said, the tank tops and sleeveless tops make a big difference too.

Misters help if you can keep them filled with ice cubes along with the water.

We are going this August and here are my tips:

1) Aqua Cool neck bands--Wal Mart sporting goods dept for 2.88. I soak in a sinkful of ice in the hotel in the am and carry in a plastic sack with some ice until I am ready to wear around my neck. I will re-fresh often during the day in a fountain or sink.

2) We go as naked as decency allows. Tank tops for everyone, and I only wear the ones with the built in bra--no extra straps.

Everyone wears loose mens/boys swim trunks (inlcuding the girls) with the great mesh undies--we can get wet, but dry off rather quick.

3) Sandals only--no hot sweaty feet

4) Tons of ice cold water--we bring empty gatorade bottles filled with ice from the hotel.

5) Hats are a must

6) Sunglasses are a must

7) I bring the mister fans, but I usually regret lugging them around.

Go during the fall/winter/spring season. I went during the fall season and the weather was perfect. Also, drink plenty of water.

Remember that the restaurants (counter serve) at Disney World will give you a free cup of ice water just for the asking! I learned that on these boards and it came in handy last time we went!

Be sure to pace yourself and step inside somewhere for some air conditioning. Even if it's stepping in and out of souvineer shops!

Our best way to cool off is using the Kitchen Spritzers from Pampered Chef. They are small and fit in a fanny pack. Cost about $10. You fill them up 2/3 and then when you're ready to use them, pump the cap. The mist that comes out is so fine and feels wonderful - you don't get soaked. They're very easy to refill at any water fountain.

Sunscreen is a must..but wear a hat to keep the sun off your head and a lighter color one is better as dark colors are hotter...

Drink plenty of liquids, soda is not good for you when you are very warm..our tip is to drink Power Aides or Gator Aides which rehydrate your body and give you energy. WDW sells Power Aides and so does Universal, we drinks several of them all day long and we feel fine.
