Hmm...I think it's interesting that you bring up the civil war. And even more interesting that the civil war era represents civilized society to you.

I'm not sure what you learned in school, but I learned about a judicial system and a Constitution.

Well... I learned that the US constitution was written in 1787, and the Civil War started in 1861... several decades after the Judicial system was established... by the constitution.

Our police & National Guard need to be able to get this kind of thing stopped. Bring in the police dogs, the water cannons, the rubber bullets ( that's what they're for ) Arrest the professional instigators that always come in. I am so sick of this crap. It's been going on all my life. I remember very well the riots in the 1960's in NJ and NY. It's nothing new and it's disgusting.

I don't justify illegal actions taken by anybody... but I'm also not willing to dehumanize anybody. Justifying something and trying to understand the root cause are two totally different things.

Bill Connor, for those too young to have been alive then, was a racist. I'm not. When I say that police dogs, water cannons, and rubber bullets should be used I mean against ANYONE who chooses to riot.

I certainly feel for the families but I can ask the same question. Where is the reporting on black on black crime??? Where is the outrage by people in their community about that?

You will never see that on the news...it doesn't bring ratings...and people don't care that there are people in those communities trying to make things better. The riots you see now..that brings ratings and sells newspapers. So it will be in the cycle for the time being.

And I do not believe Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is not equipped to run the city. Thanking the Nation of Islam for their support and their presence? She is either a defiant radical or really needs to do some research.

Walter Scott's murderer was immediately jailed. His parents/family were calm, level headed people who begged for no riots or fanfare. They are trusting in the judicial system to take care of this.

No big story. Well, I guess the biggest story is his children will now be taken care of. Walter Scott preferred to cruise around in a Mercedes instead of feeding his children. He just refused to feed his babies. Nope. Not going to do it. Even his final act was running away from it.

Now that he is dead, they will get his death benefits and they can finally have child support from their negligent father.

What is wrong with the Mayor? Nothing. She was not clear and she was vilified by some for it.

It saddens me that the protesters' points have been overwhelmed by the rioters.

They were trying to diffuse though. During TV coverage of the CVS burning and police moving in to give the firefighters room, you could clearly see them stepping in when people in the crowd tried to start trouble with the police line.

Look at the news and you can see what a society looks like when police officers are not permitted to do their jobs. It certainly doesn't look like America to me. My prayers are with all those in law enforcement tonight. I can't imagine why anyone would want to be a cop and risk their lives for others just to be attacked or killed for trying to guard and protect these neighborhoods.

For the record I am a part of a large law enforcement family. My husband is in law enforcement as is pretty much every male in his family. It's okay to support police without supporting the corruption.

With that said... ANY event of this kind is wrong.

No, the point is the rare criminal who dies at the hand of overzealous police (or in some cases, police simply doing their jobs) is somehow a spark for all out riot while the day to day killings amongst the population doesn't so much as grab a headline.

A lot of of what we see happening in Baltimore and in general with the African-American community throught out the country can be understood in a world we can safely say is Post-Freudian. I don't want to cheapen his ideas by boiling them down to one or two catchphrases, but let me simply say that the history of African-American violence in the United States is mostly self-inflicted. We do not have bombings like we see from Basque Separatiats in Spain or Coriscan Nationalists in France or what we saw in The Troubles in Northern Ireland: to this day there are walls and iron barriers (called "Peace Lines") that separate Catholic and Protestant neighborhoods in larger Northern irish cities. This is a compeltely foreign concept in the United States.

There is no African-American Revolution. The surprise is that there hasn't been one. Their history is far and away one of docility in the face of severe oppression. The harm we see being done today is from a deep psychological wellspring.

We keep saying and resaying the same things again and again when this keeps happening.

The fact is, regardless of his choices, a police officer killed a man. Nothing makes this officers actions ok.

The rioters are disgusting and are also wrong. Its a mob mentality and its horrible. It seems be many coming in and taking advantage of the anger of the community. I get the anger, its justifyed, their actions are not.

There has to be a solution between the police and these communities. My prayers go out to all the people of Baltimore.
