My children loved the podcast cruise last May. However, we are not taking them on part 2. We want to have some adult time. So, we thought we would take them on a cruise next June. It's on the new ship, it's a double dip. Thought it would be great. They WERE excited until they found out that they would have to miss a family reunion in South Dakota.

My children would rather go camping at Mt. Rushmore than go on a Disney cruise. Where have I failed as a parent????

I would call your children wanting to go to a family reunion a success as a parent! A failure as a Dis'er but a success as a parent! What
ever you do, I am sure it will be fun.

You can adopt me! ;) I think it is sweet that they want to be with family, but I could not pass on the cruise!

I don' t know, I kind of like the "guys on the rock" as DD used to call them.

Perhaps it is the reaction to learning they won't go to the family reunion . . . give them some time to get used to it.

And as much as they do have fun with the cousins, they really want to go camping. Seriously??? Cruising or Camping. Why is that a hard decision?

I am with you on this...cruising wins hands down for me!

Whoa I would never pass down a Disney trip! Going to disney is such a fun treat to go to! Why would they want to go camping instead?! That suprises me because most kids are always up for Disney! Lol.

Because my children have been going to Disney World since they were 3 and 2. They have no idea what life without Disney is like.

Can I take them camping at Mt. Rushmore?? I've always wanted to go see that part of the country and camping makes it even more fun..

I think that seeing family is very important. Cousins are sort of a mixture between siblings and friends. I believe that having this mixture in ones life is extremely important. It is just something that you can't get anywhere else.

Just the two sense from a Teen ;)

EDIT: It is on the new ship? FORGET ABOUT FAMILY GET ME ONTO THE AQUADUCK

Gibson, I totally get the family thing. We've never missed a family reunion. HOwever, it's the location thing. To my daughter, going to Mt. Rushmore sounds like more fun than a Disney cruise.

(I wrote last night and the boards went down just as I hit the submit button!)

I totally agree with Theresa. I think it is great the your daughters want to spend time with family.

I like that they show an appreciation for camping. I like their adventurous spirit and willingness to try different activities and experiences. I like that they want a variety of trips, different from or in addition to Disney. I like that they are intriqued by Mount Rushmore and hope they will not be disappointed.

Keep up with the family reuniouns before they grow older and don't want to do such things.

And, so very excellent that you are getting to go on your grown up cruise this year! :goodvibes

Okay maybe you can do both...
Camping at Fort Wilderness Campgrounds and the cruise??

I really like Mt Rushmore, but let me tell you to get there is the most boring ride you will ever take. until you get to the badlands,it is farmland and haystacks. We love to go to Mt. Rushmore, and we really love the Crazy Horse sculpture and museum, but I can only go every few years, because I can not stand the drive to get there!!!

Maybe they could take sleeping bags and sleep on the floor of your ship's cabin It wouldbe the best of both worlds!

I think my boys would choose the same thing... They have been begging to go to Mt Rushmore. :confused3 Plus they love going to family stuff :confused3 not sure where they get it from.

What about planning a trip to Mt Rushmore some other time?

Or just going on the cruise another week?
