So the last 3 trips we have stayed at POP and loved it! This time I convince DH to try POR he agrees GREAT! I book FD at POR garden view but now Im getting cold feet! Am I making the right choice? Will I miss POP? The smell of POP is what tells my mind that Im in Disney! I LOVE it I walk in and that smell smacks me in the face and I am instantly in heaven! So I tell my DH this and he says he wants to stay at POR to try something new. Im just afraid Ill get there and it wont be woth the extra $368. Tell me I am totally wrong that POR is going to be awesome! I guess I get into my comfort zone with POP and Im afraid Ill be at POR thinking I shoulda stayed with POP! AHHHHHHH I wish I could just relax!:lmao:

I love POP too but if I were to try a mod it'd be POR. I've stayed at CBR before and hated it. POP over CBR anyday but yes, I would like to try POR someday. Funny, I don't smell anything at POP. And my nose is way overactive. I smell everything. Wait, I do remember smelling tons of cig smoke outside the food court near the main pool but I'm assuming that's not what you mean. LOL! We did have POP booked again for this year but was able to get AOA LM section a couple days ago and we'll be the very first to stay in the room so we went for it.

I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you choose.

I have stayed at both and I definitely like POR the best. Go ahead and try it, you will like it. You will never want to go back to a value again:thumbsup2

The last time I stayed at POR was when it was called Dixie Landings, but I can tell you, my family loved it! It has a great pool and you can't beat the boat transportation to Downtown Disney!

If given the choice between Pop and POR, I would choose POR. It is a beautiful resort! (Now I just need to get the right rate! :thumbsup2)

I'm sure you would be happy with whatever you choose, but I think you would really enjoy Port Orleans Riverside!

Hugs, OP, I've been where you are with cold feet. In the end though I would always go with the new resort. It added to both the adventure and excitement of the trip. 98% of time I was happy I followed my instinct.
Think about this, you can take the boat from POR to DTD-that's 1 new thing to try.
You will have a fabulous trip. Here's some pixie dust and fireworks too:

Take a deep breath!

It seems you go to Disney often, so I can't imagine that this will be your last trip! Even when you stay at the same place every trip is different. Just expect this one to be different. Not necessarily better or worse, just different.

I had the same qualms on our last trip, except we went from AKL to CBR (which is considered a downward move to most people). We loved the trip just as much, maybe even more, and we got to save a little bit of money in the process.

I'm sure you have your reasons for choosing POR just as you had your reasons for choosing POP. Just remember those reasons and take a deep breath. I'm sure you'll love it!

you guys are the best! Im feeling alot better about my choice! I know itll be alot of fun! I tend to do this every trip! I have been booked deluxe and mod and always end up going to POP. I need to try new things for sure! Iam really excited to try something new just afraid of hating POR which Im sure we will love it! I guess its like sticker shock you see the price difference between the two resorts and you try to decide if that extra$$ is worth it! But our family is getting bigger so we do need the extra room (my kids were 5 yrs and 8 mo old our first trip so needless to say we need more room). Also Ill love the boat to DTD! oh btw the smell in POP is the food. Maybe mickey waffles or waffle cones. Always something yummy! Thanks for the moral support!!!!TIA

I know exactly what you are going through....

When we went the first time we stayed at POP, the next family trip I realized we needed two rooms if we stayed at POP, then I discovered it was cheaper to stay at Coronado Springs in one room and they had queen sized beds!! :goodvibes (the only moderate at the time to have them or we would have stayed at POR-my favorite mod through pictures). Once I booked and it was too late to change, I suddenly felt I made a mistake!!

We soo loved staying at POP (except for the noise), I loved almost everything about it! :goodvibes But I realized we needed more space and felt if I didn't like CSR the queen sized beds would make up for it, that and we could always go back to POP next time.

Half expecting to hate it at CSR, we pulled up to the front of the resort and my mind was at ease right away. :thumbsup2 We got off the bus and I felt I was home. :cloud9: Seriously!

If I felt all of this for a resort I thought I was sure to hate (the decor is soo much of what I see here in Texas all the time) then imagine what I would have felt for POR! Which I love just looking at pictures!! :woohoo:
I'd bet dimes to doughnuts POR is probably one the most beautiful resorts on property, lots of beauty to see, the river boat to take you to DTD. Seriously cool about the boat!

I think you will more than love POR, it will be quiet, serene and a different approach to doing Disney. Trust me, once you do a mod. you won't ever want to do a value again. I know I sure don't!
Okay, that's not totally true....I want to stay in AofA to be able to see it in all it's coolness and experience it for a couple of nights, but then I'm off to CSR for the rest of the trip!!

You'll love POR it's one of our favorites!! With so much to do there and the pools are so much fun. You can rent a boat or a Surrey bike for two and ride through the entire complex. And one thing that is a must, go see Yahoo Bob at the bar during the evening, he's a hoot!!
Have a great trip...

I've never stayed at POR,only POFQ but I would love to stay at POR,it looks like a beautiful resort. I know when you see the price difference and you already love POP it might be hard to upgrade. But like others have said, once you stay at a mod it is hard to go back to a value. And also you will now get the regular DDP for free dining instead of the counter service you
would get staying at POP so that makes up some of the price difference..I'm sure you will love it and have a great trip!:)

I too know how you are feeling. We stayed at POP last year (our first ever on-site stay) and we LOVED IT!

This year, DH wanted to try a mod, so we ended up picking POFQ ... and ever since we paid everything off, we've been doubting ourselves. Will we love it as much as POP? Will it have the same vibe for us? Will we be comfy there?

Oh, and I totally get the "smell" thing, too. Every time I hit Classic Hall, I would smell the waffles ... YUM!

Enjoy your trip to POR. And if you don't care for it, know you can always go back home to POP next time ;)

I am having the same issues right now. Three trips at Pop that have been great and this trip we are staying at the Dolphin. So I am concerned about it not being "Disney" enough.

I am going to miss just having access to ME, but keep telling myself that having a driver meet us at baggage claim will be okay too.

You're going to love POR! It was the first resort we ever stayed at (8 yrs ago). It is beautiful; one of the things that made me fall heavily for WDW vacation.

You should definitely give POR a shot!!!! We have never stayed there, but it's on our list (as all of the Disney resorts are). We moved out of our comfort zone (values) and stayed at CBR last year. While it wasn't our favorite, I don't regret staying there at all!!! It's fun trying new resorts, and you can always go back to Pop on a future trip!! :goodvibes

I get exactly where you are coming from. I am having anxiety even thinking about trying AOA. LOL! We just LOVE POP!!! Heck if they had DVC for the POP we would be in!! LOL!!!! That being said we have stayed at the POR and were happy there. It really is beautiful. Chalk it up to a new experience, you will be at WDW so no worries, besides if you need a whiff of Classic Hall it will not be on the other side of the world just jump on a bus and go. :) and grab some tie dye cheese cake for me too!!! Have fun!!!

Although I've never stayed at POP, I have stayed at most of the moderate resorts, and some of the deluxe resorts, and loved our stay at POR as much as any stay at a deluxe! POR was our first on property stay, so that may have something to do with it, but I found it to be very beautiful and full of conveniences. We luckily, though, did not get placed is a "far-away" area. We stayed in building 15 in alligator bayou and LOVED it there. It was like being in a cabin in the middle of the swamp (minus the huge mosquitos), quiet, and lovely, yet very close to the bus stop, a quiet pool, and the main house where restaurants, gift shops, arcade, and registration are. Just as an extra note, I was disappointed when we checked in and we weren't placed in the plantation area...but after experiencing the alligator bayou section of the resort, I don't think I'd go back to the mansions section! You're gonna love it!

HI, I have not stayed at POP or POR but i completely get what you mean by smell. We Stayed at AKL- Kindani (with a 40 percent room discount) in 2009 and i absolutely loved the smell and the atmosphere of the resort. Its funny though because i think the smell is what i remember the most. In 2010 we rented points to stay at BC, and i was so afraid that i was going to miss AKv and maybe i did for a few minutes the first day of our trip, but then i fell in love with BC for other reasons. Now, i find myself torn between which one to stay at on my next trip. I am thinking about trying POR(the pictures make it look so beautiful) and my daughter thinks AoA looks wonderful with all the movie theming. I try to look at pictures that other visitors have taken here on the disboards and see how i feel when looking at them and if i feel happiness then i believe i would be happy with the resort.

We LOVE POFQ!! but next year, we're going to try POR! I just hope I won't miss the room at POFQ. I suppose if I feel like I need a little bit of that POFQ, we will just boat it or walk it to POFQ to have lunch or dinner there and maybe go swimming and walk around the ground. :)

We enjoyed our stay at POP, but I think POFQ/POR has more to offer. You can take a leisurely boat trip to Downtown Disney. You can pool hop to both resorts since they are sister resorts. You have a full service restaurant at POR, as well as the food court at POR and POFQ. You have two choices of the luxury look of the Mansions or the rustic look of the Alligator Bayuo. I think you will enjoy POR! :)

I know exactly how you feel. We stayed at POP in 2010 and loved it. Right now we're booked for the AoA but I have a 30% off PIN for POP but probably won't use it as I want to try a new resort. Actually, I could use the PIN for POR and might look into it more. Would my DD like POR? It seems a bit more for adults than children.
