What is wrong with a cupcake?

Not at all bitter - just curious as to why early morning cup cake eaters at BOG receive scorn and are accused of abusing some "loophole".

Because it's assumed that many of those people have no interest whatsoever in the cupcake, and simply want a jump on the Rope Droppers.

It is the reports of 4 or 5 or 6 or even 8 people making PPO ADR's and then sharing one cupcake before heading off for the mine train that I personally find rude and obnoxious. They take up seats that others desperately want and are obviously not there for the food.

I also think many here on the Dis don't really grasp what a loophole is.
A loophole is something that is technically within the rules but goes against the intent or spirit of the rules. People are speculating as to what Disney's intent is, but I don't think people are being unreasonable in calling it a loophole. Nor should people who do this take offense at that. It's a matter of opinion on which people can reasonably disagree.

I guess we will get the evil eye in June as we have an early ADR at BOG and plan to get only the cupcake and beverage. Of course we still may get a couple entrees and share as well. I have no interest in getting to the 7DMT early as I will have FP+ for that later in the day. I just want to see the inside of the restaurant, try the gray stuff and enter the MK without the crowds. This may be our last full family trip as our kids are getting older and starting college this fall, so getting some great photos with the castle and not tons of people are more important to me. However, to avoid the minimum fee for not showing up, we have to at least eat something and the cupcake and beverages fit that bill.

I think we can all agree that when a restaurant offers items a la carte, customers may then purchase those items. I really cannot see how this goes against the "spirit" of the rules of a la carte. Even though the restaurant was first billed as prix fixe, it never has been.

Those people who are really concerned that just ordering dessert is somehow cheating, better also be purchasing a full three courses at every table service, because by that same logic, if a full three course meal is not purchased, then they are going against the spirit of the rules, as this is what is offered on the menus at most WDW restaurants.

I would think more people would be concerned about dessert being the only thing ordered at dinner, as this is the only time one is required to tip at BOG, but it seems some people care more about what they perceive they are losing out on (supposed cupcake cheaters getting the jump on 7DMT) than the loss of income for someone else. That's human nature, I suppose.

For the record, I have no problem with dessert dinners at BOG, or anywhere, for that matter. I'd eat pie for dinner every night if I could.

Never in my whole life would I stop to take the time to notice what others around me (not in my group) are eating and why! Do people really do this? How about I won't comment about what you're eating and you don't comment about what I'm eating?!? Haha...just sayin. And by "you," I mean society, not you personally ;) To each his own! Enjoy your cupcake!

I personally don't care whether someone eats a cupcake or a cup of ice at BOG for breakfast. As of right now people are allowed to go in there and order a cup of coffee and nothing else. I'm fine with that. But I really don't think Disney is going to sit back much longer on it. I truly believe they will eliminate BOG as a QS and make it a TS for breakfast and lunch in the near future. I also think they will price at least the breakfast based on per person. I just don't believe Disney will sit back much longer. Again, I really don't care what someone eats or doesn't eat, it's no sweat off my back. But Disney when they see an opportunity to cash in, they do... I see them doing just that here very soon. Just my opinion.

I think you may have missed the point. People have strong opinions on how these "cupcake" habits are going to affect them down the road. It's not the cupcake. Disney advertised BOG as a fixed price (expensive) breakfast, and immediately tossed that out the door. People are sharing entrees, having a cupcake or nothing, just as Disney raised breakfast price again. When you add all of the uneasiness in regards to the changes that are taking place, the difficulty in getting an ADR, and the crowds that never were, well.... People have opinions.

I have no stong feelings about this one way or another, I do not refer to these folks as cheaters, and am not at all sure that this practice unduly influenced what we now know is going to be a paid for morning event. But I understand why folks notice at BOG

I did the same thing, OP... Actually I did it twice! 8am BOG reservations for two days. And I just got coffee and packed my breakfast. (And got several "amazing" pictures in front of the castle with not a single person behind me)

As for the working out in the morning before your reservation, amazing!! I do Crossfit and train/run marathons but didn't do any workouts on my trip. But I figured it was fine because I wanted to save my energy for the parks. I walked about 15 miles per day at the parks on average, every day, which is a lot!

Thank you, but I understand the point. It was just my way of saying "eat what you want and don't worry about the rest" :-) It's just amazing to me that there is so much discussion about things like this, I think I will name this "the great cupcake debate" ;) This is why I love the DIS boards!

I know MANY MANY MOONS AGO.....when HS first opened.....we went to Sci Fi and ordered desserts/drinks. We weren't that hungry for another big meal. We wanted to see the "inside" and so we went there. Back then I'm pretty sure ADR's were not a thing back then but, our waiter WAS NOT HAPPY AT ALL. WHEW!!! Not happy was an understatement and after that WE NEVER EVER did that again.

Working out on vacation is a treat. No schedule - no meetings waiting for me. And I can end it with a dip in the pool & hot tub. And a cupcake:)

You're gonna make less money and a significantly lower tip off that table than you would off a table ordering a meal, appetizers and drinks.

Especially if you have that attitude as a server. :)

Can I evil eye you for working out very hard, then eating a cupcake? ;)

For many of us, it's the whole point of working out.

Except I don't eat Disney cupcakes as I feel they are vile. And they almost always use gelatin, which I am opposed to. But I lost 85 lbs while eating 105 grams of REAL ice cream just about every night! (among other things LOL...)

our waiter WAS NOT HAPPY AT ALL. WHEW!!! Not happy was an understatement and after that WE NEVER EVER did that again.

That's too bad that they let that bother them. The reality is that you were likely going to be out of there much quicker than others, and you might very well have tipped them appropriately (especially if they hadn't behaved poorly as OBVIOUSLY they did). If we were in your shoes, their manager would have been talked to about the server's attitude and it would have gotten even worse (than a perceived low cost low tip table) for them.

Guy, as already stated BOG breakfast is a QS meal where all bets are off - order a cupcake, order a meal, whatever - until Disney changes it to a TS guests are free to do what they wish. What are the discussion points here? No tipping conversations need apply.
