I don't know the guy personally, but I know him from the internet for 3 years... He is a GENIUS alchoholic. And he used to write software for the military for weapons.

Does he by chance live in VA? This sounds exactly like a man that used to frequent the paintball shop in town. The manager of the shop is a good friend of ours and talked with this man a lot. Apparently his entire house was ready for WWIII. He told our friend not to ever show up unannounced as he had surveillance cameras all around his property and he wouldn't make it up the driveway Very strange man!

and whatever is in our nightstands, don't really look in there often so don't know what is in there except my husband's 9mm. We don't have any children so no worries about it being in the nightstand.

Wow, I am really surprised by the number of people that have guns in their nightstands! Interesting (although I'm sure the DIS isn't exactly a representative sample of the population). Love that so many people are in arm's reach of their critters.

Within arm's reach (this is at night when I'm in the bed, not during the day):
- Bottle of water (can't have a cup of water, cats will knock it over)
- Eye drops
- Cell phone (and sometimes charger)
- BC pills
- Glasses (if I took out my contacts)
- Laptop
- Snowy and Oliver (cats - sometimes, they move around)
- Chapstick

Yeah.... I think that's it! Boring!

I am making two assumptions here but I suspect that this board skews toward SAHMs who would be less likely than the average person to have a firearm handy.

I am indeed a SAHM but that has no influence whatsoever on my pacifist and anti-gun beliefs. I just see no reason to expose my children or my family to unneeded weapons in my own home.

That being said, your beliefs and behavior fit neatly into my hypothesis, so I'm not sure why you even posted, unless it is just that you are shocked that you do fit so neatly into this category.
