What is with the colour of the pool at animal kingdom?

I have been looking at hotels to stay at and quite like the look of the animal kingdom but the pool looks green. has anyone been and could let me know if it is a nice pool. we usually stay at the yacht club and like it there but fancy a change.

I haven't stayed there but i visited a friend who was .. the pool is lovely and the kids looved splashing about in it and especially going on the slide

We've stayed at AKL twice and I can confirm it is a lovely pool. I am a real fan of the zero entry style and it is especially good for younger children to splash around in.

My DDs say the waterslide is a bit boring compared to some of the other WDW ones.

There are usully pool games, races with noodles etc in the afternoon.

ETA: I don't think any pool will measure up to Stormalong Bay though, just to make you aware!

We stayed there last August, went to pool once about 9:30am, but 10am we had to come out it was waaaay to busy, every sunbed taken and too many people. It was OK but far too small for a hotel that size. We also like a deeper pool, you can stand anywhere in it. Ok for younger kids but myself and a child over 6' not the best.

Good point, Wayne. I have found all the WDW hotel pools I have stayed at more shallow than I would like (and I'm only 5 foot 4 )

Just found pic of it from evening we checked in, weather was not great so it was quieter.

If the pool is a big issue then there is no contest, you see in the pic exactly what the AKL pool is like, its almost all in the pic, just a small slide you can't see. For us we can easily live without a pool, 30 mins in 3 days we used it. waking up to the savanah on a morning is 10 times better than any pool but thats a personal choice.

The pool is great and looks that colour due to the way the bottom has been painted a green colour to make it look like an 'African watering hole'.

Animal Kingdom is a great Hotel but we prefered the pool and the pool area at Wilderness lodge (not that we didn't like the one at AK). Ahving the Savannah at AK is briliiant and the themeing is superb.

However we only really used the pools in the evenings because of the Water Parks
