What is Wishes Dessert Party?

Can someone explain exactly what this party is? Is it all just desserts and do you think it is worth the extra money?

Thanks

It is not an entertainment-type 'party' so much as it is a private viewing and dessert-dining experience.

It is held in the lower level of the Tommorrowland Terrace CS restaurant. The Terrace is closed to everyone except party guests. The event starts 1 hour before the night's fireworks. Each group has a reserved table (a real reservation, not an ADR). You cannot really see much of the Main Street Parade but you have a beautiful, unobstructed view of Magic, Memories & You and then of the fireworks. Tink flies in right over your head. You can stay seated at your table or move up to the railing if you prefer, but there is enough room for everybody because attendance at the party is quite limited.

From the time you enter the party until shortly after the fireworks end you can help yourself to a dessert buffet (fancy tarts, little miniature desserts, chocolate-covered strawberries, etc - not traditional 'kid' things like Mickey bars). Beverages include hot coffee, iced tea, lemonade, and milk. Soda pop is NOT on the buffet.

Whether it is 'worth' it completely depends on what you and your group would enjoy. It is much more expensive than, say, buying a big ice cream cone or a pastry from the bakery and watching the fireworks from Main Street, but we really enjoy the chance to sample so many, many desserts. And to drink GALLONS of ice-cold milk. The parade is not a deal-breaker for us. Getting to sit and talk quietly without staking a spot out hours ahead of time is grand.

There have been lots of threads with pics; search for them or search dining reviews. Do NOT attempt to eat dinner on a night when you are doing the dessert party. Have a big lunch instead, at least 5 hours beforehand (so no later than 3 pm if the fireworks are at 9). It's bonus if you schedule the Party for a night with evening EMH; that way you are all 'fueled up' and the sugar high from the Party will easily take you through to 2 am or so.

We did this back in January during our anniversary trip. The view was awesome. The desserts all tasted the same to me :confused3 just sugary. To be honest, the donut holes were my favorite and that shouldn't be with the array of desserts served. I was very disappointed and so was my husband.

I am glad we tried it once, but will not be doing it again in the future.

Just my opinion :)

It still amazes me how people can get excited about paying for this. Several years ago--it was open seating to the public, we would get an ice cream from the Ice Cream Shop or a Dole Whip and enjoy the fireworks. Now it cost a fortune for as many desserts you can eat in a short period of time. My own opinion RIDICULOUS. I'd rather spend my money for a nice meal. Most people that have done this have said that once was okay--but not again. Enjoy -it is a great view.

Well I'm pretty sure we won't be going. The view would be nice but I really don't need all those desserts. I just had never heard of it before and just curious as to what it all entails. Thanks for all the opinions.

Here are a couple of pics of SOME of the desserts from when we did Wishes Dessert Party last May, 2010...

i think it's a better option for people who are older and want a relaxed atmosphere to watch the fireworks or for someone traveling with a baby that wants a nice place to watch, park the stroller and enjoy the food and show kind of thing. i don't really think i'd do it with your typical elementary age kids...that's just me.

Still thinking of booking the Wishes Dessert party. Does anyone have any suggestions on whether you think we would enjoy it? It will be me, my husband, my 20 yr daughter and my 15 year old daughter. Looking for something "new" to do. Are there a lot of small children there?

We did this last November and liked it very much. My girls were 21 and 15 and loved it. They liked trying all the different desserts and the view. If you do it I would stand at the railing ahead of time. It seems no one wants to stay in their seats so if you want pictures with no heads be the first at the rail. My girls loved having our own table with our name on and the whole set up. It was a different way to experience the fireworks.

Thanks for your reply. Our 20 year is currently in culinary school to be a pastry chef so I think she would definitely enjoy seeing all the desserts. Thanks for your suggestions.

My teenagers (now 15 and 18) love it. The have been 4 times with a 5 scheduled this August. If you have any questions, please ask.
