What is walking a resevation

I have seen this on a number of threads and have no clue what it is.

It is when you book a reservation starting earlier than you really want to get a jump on the booking. So, say you really want to stay from the 10th to the 17th of January. Your 11 month window would open February 10th. But, instead, you call February 4th and book the 4th to the 11th of January. This way, you have locked in your first night earlier than others. You could then call back on the 10th and drop the beginning and add the days you really want.

Most of the time, this is not necessary. But, very busy times, like the holidays and earlier December, some do.
