I've read many tricks to getting a Fort Wilderness reservation online here on DisBoards. One of the tricks I read on here is that the online booking engine will sometimes withhold a site until a certain number of days are hit. For example, making a reservation for a premium site for one weekend may show no availabilities. Extending the reservation to 1 week may only show tent sites. Extending the reservation to 2 weeks may begin to show full-hookup sites. Extending the reservation to 3 weeks may begin to show preferred-sites. Throughout this time, Disney tries to offer the more expensive cabins as an alternative. Finally, extending the reservation to 4 weeks will give you a premium site. The deposit is still only $100+ even though the total is now up to thousands of dollars. One can then book the site. And then call-in, and cancel the days not needed. Having doubts, I decided to try this for the June 2011 space shuttle launch period. Indeed the above method works! In the end I did not book the site but I confirmed the trick. It is too bad that the Disney online booking engine works this way. Do you think Disney knows that the booking engine works this way? Do you think Disney really wants to withhold sites for people who want to stay much longer? Do you think this is fair? Moreover, do you think it is fair to trick the system, using the above DisBoards method, to get the dates you want?
