What is up with parents forcing kids on rides???

Not preference, just the fact that one ride makes the guy so terrified he won't step foot in the entire theme park. There's some other stuff going on for that to happen but that is neither here nor there.

I said he hated it ,not that he would not step foot in the park again.

Wow, that stinks!

I convinced my boys to go on ToT, and they didn't really enjoy it, but now they aren't freaked out by the thought of it.

I also talked them into Space Mountain, and they both LOVE it!

I guess some people do actually know their kids and make a jusgement to try to get them to try something new...

Yesterday we talked my 7 yr old into trying a philly cheese steak sandwich that he swore he wouldn't like and then he kept wanting more of it. :lmao:

With or without WIZ?

Still something going on up there if you hate an entire park over 1 ride. It would be like hating all cheeses because you don't like Swiss or hating all cars because a Beamer almost hit you once.

Anyways, I'll move on.

Last year we went to York Maine. There's an amusement park there. I tried to get our 6yr old (she loves ghosts & bats) to go in the walk-through haunted house. Basically its a dark maze with black lights, and neon painted walls. Her answer was no, no, no, no, no, then a reluctant yes. Just as we got to the entrance, another girl her age came running out screaming. We didn't go on....My girl then gave me the "I told you so" talk. (I thought it was cute, how she became so knowledable and worldly all of a sudden) I'll try again with the Disney haunted house. Maybe if she sees the ride prior to our trip, via online videos, it will ease the anxiety.... Someone earlier here said "fun not fear" I think that's a perfect discussion to have with your reluctant kids, Disney only makes "fun" things, so let's take a look at this ride.

Watch the movie with eddie murphy. We watched it and told DD the ride had parts of the movie in it. So we tried to find all the parts of the movie when we rode.

Tip for Haunted Mansion. I rode with DD when she was 4 and she was a bit nervous because of all the noises. I told her that her Daddy (who was in the car behind) was being so silly thinking he could scare us by making such silly noises. She laughed all the way through and still thinks the noises in there are made by her daddy! She loved the ride but I could tell at the beginning that the noises were upsetting her.

Noone knows your kids like you do. Just ignore the busy bodies who make judgements on you when they have no idea of your situation.

I just got back May 8th till the 16th and I traveled with my cousins little ones.

They are 3 and 5. Their son 5 years old did not want to ANYTHING. He didn't cry he just pitched a small fit and whined. He didn't want to go on the Haunted Mansion and wasn't really crying he was being annyoing.

Well that became his favorite ride! We went on it 2 more times and on our way to the airport we asked him what his favorite thing was and he described the ride literally in full detail. So forcing is a strong word but you know your children and if they are really crying or not.

My son, who is now a grown man, hates scary rides. His claim to fame is tackling Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain. When he was around 10, we went to Disney and all headed to ToT. He whined the entire time in line and my husband was furious with him, which made me furious with my husband. We were on the receiving end of many stink eyes. Finally we told him we could baby swap and he relaxed....until we got to the elevator to do the swap. He was sure that we were all in cahoots (the cast members too) to get him on the ride and that was actually not the way out but the ride itself. He pitched a fit, it was so embarrassing, especially since he was ten years old. (He was a very happy go lucky kid, which made his behavior all the more shocking!) We laugh about it now, but he still refuses go on it. We'll see what happens in June!

When my youngest son was about 7 he was sooooooo nervous about going on BTMR that he keep tooting in line...then he hurled on a CM's shoe, right when it was our time to board...we missed that train. I quickly cleaned him up and changed his shirt with one from by "backpack o' magic", the CM showed us to the exit, but I asked him if we could go on the next train (it was like a 40 minute wait to get to this point). My son reluctantly got on..

......it became my sons favorite ride and we laugh about it all the time.

On the other hand, once at Busch Gardens my daughter freaked right as we were boarding the scorpion and we had to get off that one as she was crying.

"Most" parents know what their child can handle or if they are really scared or just being dramatic... Man I cant wait to "force" some grand kids on some rides at Disney....:rotfl2:

Always hoping one will break it so I can laugh at them.

Oh come on as a child you never tried to sit on a line rope???? They are CHILDREN!!!! Laughing at them falling is a bit cruel. If kids can't be kids at Disney where can they?

My Parents tried forcing me on ToT on my first trip to disney world.
I refused and started crying. They were still trying then eventually my mom said fine! but you don't get to see the hsm parade if you don't ride. So I said okay! I'm still not riding. Then my mom came out of it and she said she was sorry and that if it was too scary for her then I wouldn't have enjoyed it.

HAHA this reminds me of the "Disney Tip of the Month" that appeared on our resort TV while watching the resort channels.

It said "let your little ones decide if they want to ride", there was a little picture of Timon and Pumba I think with Timon not wanting to go on the ride, or Pumba. It made me laugh.

I used to sit on them all the time when I was younger. Nothing ever happened lol.

I don't laugh at the kids who fall, but I do want to smack the parents for letting them do it. It is their fault if their child is misbehaving and gets hurt.

Not a ride but when we went to T-Rex Cafe a man that was there kept taking his son who looked to be about 5 to see the T-Rex. Each time his soon would scream like he was terrified. Then his Dad would take him back to his seat. The Dad brought him back to see it about 10 times while we were there and each time it just scared the daylights out of that boy! We all felt really bad beacause you could tell he was really scared. The guy was really getting a kick out of it too because he was laughing like it was the funniest thing he ever saw when his son would cry. :scared1:

then they shouldn't be sitting on the rope to begin with.

Yeah, some kids just whine cause they are probably not in the mood to do it lol. That is what I notice, I never really noticed a child screaming bloody murder because they are petrified of the ride because the parent was making them.

I noticed it once a couple years ago at Universal. The parents made their kid go on Jaws and the kid freaked the whole time while the parents laughed. It was funny but kind of messed up at the same time. Oh well. It happens lol.

Yeah if the kid is like swinging and acting like an animal on the rope they can get hurt.

then they shouldn't be sitting on the rope to begin with.

No they shouldn't really but kids are drawn to things like that.

Yes I agree that they should not do it and I don't allow mine to do it but its not the worst thing kids could be doing is it?

I don't think it's fair to categorically say that any child who is crying shouldn't be taken on a ride.

We ask the kids to go on everything. If they say no, and it's a ride that might be scary for them, my husband or I absolutely will sit out with them. But my son used to be in the habit of flipping out at anything he didn't know about - including Spaceship Earth and Kali River Rapids, neither of which are the least bit scary. If we permitted him to run the show completely, he would never have gone on ANYTHING - and how fair would it be to take him to Disney World and make him sit to wait for everyone on the rides? He had fun on everything we took him on and now he trusts us to tell him whether we think a ride would be scary for him.

It's not always bad parenting.
