I admit I am not a fan of JM's style, his Twittering, and how in the past he seems to give way too much information about his personal life, but I guess he gave an interview recently and used racial slurs and said some really awful things about Jessica Simpson. He also talks about his, ahem, private parts in depth.

He says the most inappropriate things to the media and it seems to be getting worse. I thought there was some "code" amongst celebrities to not kiss and tell, etc. While I do like some of his music, I really dislike him as a person and have lost respect for him.

His new CD isn't selling well and he needs publicity.

Maybe his self-censor mechanism is broken because of some kind of impairment, like ego... or drugs... or alcohol.

agnes!

I like his music (other then his latest album) but I don't care one bit about his private life because I don't understand the need to follow the private lives of celebrities. As long as I like their professional work they can do whatever they want when they are not on a field, in front of a movie camera, or in front of a mic on the stage.

I like some of his music but the comments he comes out with are just shocking. He needs to just shut up and sing.

He's got talent, but no discretion or tact. Some people seem to shout out "Pay Attention to Me!!" no matter who they hurt and it's pretty clear he's one of those. Really ugly behavior.

He posted up a big apology on twitter..

Re: using the 'N word' in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it's such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it,because I realize that there's no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged. And while I'm using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it's time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews...It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it's gotten out of hand and I've created somewhat of a monster. I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don't have the stomach for it Again, because I don't want anyone to think I'm equivocating: I should have never said the word and I will never say it again. I just wanted to play the guitar for people. Everything else just sort of popped up and I improvised, and kept doubling down on it...

As far as the other (sexual) stuff.. eh. I don't really care one way or the other. It was an interview in Playboy - what else would you expect?

Agnes is def on the right track here--I'd vote "drugs". His behavior is becoming more erratic.

I generally don't pay attention to the crazy things that celebrities do or say. They live in a totally different environment than we do and who knows what goes through their heads. Sounds to me like the guy has a high opinion of himself to say the least.

I've never liked Mayer. I think his guitar playing is overrated, and apparently his intelligence and manners are as well. :rolleyes1

I cannot stand JM. I don't like his music and I detest his character. I actually he think he may be a clinical narcissist. Hopefully no more women will want to have anything to do with him, but I doubt it.

While I'll admit when he first came out I was a big fan of his, bought his CD's and liked him. But for a few years now he's gone downhill. His remarks are crude and uncalled for.(For anything he's said in the past not just this past issue). I don't understand why so many teenagers/young adults love him. Honestly I think he likes attention and will say or do anything to get it.

I admit I do like some of his older music but he completely turns me off with his attitude and behavior. Not a big fan of him as a person!

His older music is great. Some of those older songs like "Why Georgia?" and "St. Patrick's Day" are absolutely brilliant. But as he's gotten more famous he's just gone nuts.

One of my roommates in college was from Atlanta and was a guitar player/singer and knew of JM from when he was a nobody playing clubs around around Atlanta. I wonder what he'd have to say about JM now... probably nothing good.

It's been my experience that when someone's behavior becomes markedly different in a relatively short period of time, some sort of addiction/substance abuse is going on.
Probably in the next few months we'll hear about his visit to one of the popular celebity drug/alcohol rehab clinics.

Or he's just an idiot...also a distinct possibility, since there are a lot of idiots around....

I have never liked his music, and I have always thought he says the most idiotic things.
