What Is Up With Amazon?….

We have been prime members for a few years but decided not to renew in order to avoid the temptation and therefore save money. Since then the experience of shopping on Amazon has been very interesting and I have experienced some strange things that the OP has mentioned. It's as if they are saying, "Oh no,no, no. You can't order this! It's only for PRIME members and you are simply not good enough!" I ordered protein powder that I purchased many times on prime and it would arrive the next day since we live close to the distribution center. This time it took days to arrive as if they were saying, "You are NOT PRIME so you must wait in agony!"

Ok...I'm being a little silly here but it is reminding me of what happened to longtime Netflix users several years ago. The longtime users were low on the priority in terms of when DVD's were being shipped, while the new members were getting their top choices instantly.

It's their way of getting you to pay a membership fee. Which is a shame.

How is it any different than joining Sam's Club or Costco? Or the extra percentage off if you have a Kohl's or JC Penney card? The idea behind any of these is you sign up/pay a yearly fee you get extra perks. It wouldn't make sense to pay to be a member and not get anything in return. You're paying for a convenience, that's the whole idea.

I think the Prime members only is a new thing. I buy a lot on Amazon and have had Prime since the program started, and I just noticed the Prime members only items recently.
I've never heard of it before now either. I've only seen early access to special prices. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. My kids birthday is in November and then you have Christmas, that $99 a year is well spent this time a year for me.

it's not much different than the warehouse club concept.... but that doesn't make it any better.... since Amazon used to be built on discounts, good customer service and fast shipping, and now it is turning into a club .... I had prime for a few years, and noticed a marked change in prices a while back- so much so that they were no longer my 'go-to' place to order things....not to mention I always hated those little items you couldn't order unless you got something else.... oh well, glad I didn't sign up again last friday... the prices were getting too much lately.

Maybe some people can't keep affording payments since your intent on knowing an answer. I mean you don't even know what I was ordering.

I did ask what you were ordering up thread and offered to try and help you figure out what was going on. Several people also made the suggestion to do the free trial or ask someone who does have Prime to get what you're after. My point was you don't have to pay the fee, it's an optional thing. I'm not insisting you have to pay it and never asked why you didn't.You're posts come across as Amazon is trying to take you for a ride when all they're really doing is subscribing to a particular business format like a lot of businesses do.

I just asked what is up with them. I got answers and that was all I needed. I answered I did not know anyone with prime. The item extra I was going to order was only prime, and the one item I was going to order they wanted shipping for almost the same as for the one pound item. So it was not worth it to me. If the company wants all people to pay for prime that is there right. I can't change that, I am just not going to do it. Nothing more. I will no longer come and ask a simple question.

Here's your original post:
I was trying to order a few things today, I haven't ordered from them in a long time. But when I went to add it to the cart there is no button for it. It says the item I want , I have to be a prime member. I do not want to pay for any membership. Is there a way to get around this? Thanks for any help.

You received several replies and I think people are just trying to be helpful. I understand not wanting to pay for prime and there were some good suggestions for getting around it. I don't really think it's fair to get angry because the answers aren't what you want to hear. I'm not defending Amazon, just the posters here who have been trying to make this work for you.

I answered about getting answers, I don't have to answer to anyone. I don't need to tell anyone what I want to order it is no ones bushiness. Most people just like being nasty and to nosy.

I don't think people are being nosy. I think they want to know what you wanted to order so that they could help you 'get around' the problem. No one can find a solution if they don't know what they are looking to find. I'm sorry this thread has upset you. I'm sure no one meant for you to feel that way.
It was a good question and brought up a new piece of information that some/many of us didn't know about before. So thank you for that.

Like I said I answered I don't want to join prime. I made that quite clear, what is not to understand. If I wanted people to know what I was ordering I would have mentioned it. Somethings are private in peoples lives. So it is being nosy. I don't harass people on the boards. I also said I did not know anyone who has prime and I would never ask anyone to join there account. That is not me. I said before Amazon wants people to join prime to order from them. If so no big deal.

And people like to come ask questions and then get all pissy when they don't get the responses they wanted. Usually when I don't want people in my business, I don't go around inviting people into my business. ;)
