Knock, knock
Who's there?
HIPAA
HIPAA who?
Sorry, I can't tell you!

(I'm an HR manager. HIPAA is driving me to drink!)

Gee Wanna-be-tink....I know just what ya mean....

its nuts in the healthcare field...

I really could screw with someone at Disney and use that "I will not give you any info regarding myself nor my kids....thats against HIPPA law....." and start reciting that law and see how flabergasted they get...lol

naaaah...I'll just stay off the phone with them....they are goofy...(no pun intended..lol) I have NEVER had any hotel ask me that many questions just to find out a room rate and I travel often! I mean there must have been 15 questions...and I finally just said "ENOUGH...what about the room??" Hellooooooooo.........

Esmerelda....

LOL @ the hippa joke...

i've called wdw about 3 dozen (more?) times while planning this trip and answer all their questions repeatedly... but it doesn't bother me in the least... it's what they have to do to capture the info they need to make our vacations as magical as they are... i was actually thankful when the cm i was talking to about when to go (we were deciding between now and mid-winter) informed me that by next year my dd would be adult-priced... at the time i did not realize that the price shifted at 10yo and dd will be ten in january... ergo, my september trip instead! so, while all their questioning is time consuming and can be a bit annoying, i don't mind it at all... i guess to each his/her own...

I will have to repeat that HIPPA joke at work!

I also work in the healthcare field, but I deal with all those MEDICARE forums everyday:crazy:

And I could recite HIPPA in my sleep from all the times Iget offered the handout ( I have one, I could have over 200 by now) everytime I take my DD to the dr.

I will have another 4 by the end of next week! DD is going thru a bunch of evaluations next week

What is worse, HIPPA or MEDICARE?

????

Holiday Inn doesn't send me e-mail or postcards with really good rates with Mickey on them, so I don't mind answering a few extra questions when I call. I don't think of Disney resorts as "just another hotel". I was told last time that they are in the process of updating their systems so that, when they're all on the same page, they won't have to ask all the annoying questions and will already have the info.

Last time I called in, the CM knew I had 2 trips coming up and that I was celebrating a birthday on one of them. It actually cut down on the initial "chatter" and got me to the meat of my questions much sooner (and made for a much more pleasant exchange!)

Just wondering - does anyone know what happens if you refuse to provide certain information? I would not be comfortable providing my children's names, for example, simply to obtain info about whether a resort or rate was available. Will the Disney agent say, "Then I'm sorry, but I can't help you?" or will he/she proceed with the business at hand?

Also wondering what happens if the prospective guest says they'll book through a less intrusive agency (AAA, Expedia, travel agent, etc.) if the Disney office won't accommodate their desire for privacy.

I can't stand it when a cashier asks my phone number before cashing me out - I either say it's unlisted or make one up! Just a little ornery, I guess.
