What is transferring points?

Forgive me if I sound ignorant, but I am new at all this and DH and I are probably buying a DVC resale next year some time so I am trying to get to know DVC as much as possible so it is not as overwhelming.

What does it mean to transfer points? I know all about borrowing, banking, renting points, adding on, but not transferring. Actually I have no clue! So what is it and how can a DVC member use it to their advantage?

If a member does not have enough points for a reservation they can try to find another member who will transfer points into their account so they can use them. Bascially it is moving points between two accounts versus banking or borrowing which moves points within one account. There is a limit of one transfer into or out of your account per use year.

When you transfer how does the home resort work?

My friend's home resort is Vero and her parent's home is the Boardwalk...She thinks she can get an 11 month advantage at Boardwalk if she transfers to her parents account...I did not think that was possible and did not seem fair....Am I wrong?

You are correct. The points retain the original resort and Uy and have the 11 month window for that resort so any VB points transferred to her parent's account would still have the 11 month window at VB and would be able to be used at BW at 7 months just as if she had not transferred them.

Okay, so basically I would need to know someone (friend, relative) who is generous enough to let me have some of their points in order to have enough to make my reservation.

Thanks...I don't think I will be able to do this since none of my relatives are DVC members!

Looks on the rent/trade board. A lot of members will be happy to transfer the points if you are doing a good size amount. If you are looking for small #'s, they are not as inclined to do it because you only get 1 transfer per year.
