I keep reading about the fantastic Tonga Toast. What is it exactly and where is it served?

It is served at breakfast at the Kona Cafe, at the Polynesian resort.

I had it a few years ago, and it's basically very thick bread with sliced bananas stuffed into a slit in the side of the bread, then it is deep-fried (I think!) or maybe just grilled, and coated with sugar and cinnamon. It's very rich and doesn't need maple syrup on it, in my opinion. It's good, I'd definitely get it again. They also have macadamia-pineapple pancakes that I want to try :)

Here is a link to a web site that lists the menus for all of the Disney restaurants:

http://allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm

Edited to add: Here's the description from that web site:
Tonga Toast - banana stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon sugar with choice of ham, bacon, or sausage $8.99

The Tonga at Kona is fabulous! I highly recommend you try it. You'll be back for seconds! Banana stuffed french toast; Yum!

:crazy2: I hate bananas. Do they make it with other fruit? It sounds delicious if made with strawberries. :goodvibes

It is delicious. There is also something similar at Boatwrights at POR (the table service restaurant there). I believe that the Rainforest Cafe also serves something similar. I haven't had it in a few trips, so we are definitely going to Kona Cafe on this trip!

It was good, but I found it too sweet for my taste. Also, it was so HOT that I think it equaled the temperature on the surface of the sun! :sunny: I waited 10 minutes for it to cool and it still burned my mouth.

If you like really sweet stuff and like bananas, then you'll love it! And if you are a coffee lover, get the Kona Coffee in the french press, it is SOOOOOO good!!!!!

The Rainforest Cafe does have a menu item they call Tonga Toast BUT it is just palin french toast with some sliced bananas on top. Not at all the same thing. I have never eaten at Boatwrites so I don't know what their Tonga Toast is.

I'll disagree with others (I usually do on this opinion!) - I found it disgusting. LOL! It's so so so so greasy, fatty, and sweet that one bite was enough for me. I am not sure if it's premade or if it's made fresh, but I would tend to think it's premade with the bananas but it's worth asking! DH ordered it and though he LOVES sweet things, he couldn't handle that many calories in one sitting either.

It is diff than what is served at RFC and Boatwrights, though.

If you have a serious sweet tooth, I think you'll like it!

I am sorry if I wasn't clear on my earlier post. They have similar items to Tonga Toast (though not exactly the same) at Boatwrights, Rainforest, and Kona Cafe. I would guess they are premade though, but you could ask if they could put somethign other than bananas in them. Here are the descriptions of the dishes from Allears.net:

Boatwrights:
Banana-stuffed French Toast - Banana-stuffed Texas toast, strawberry banana sauce and choice of bacon, sausage, or ham $7.99

Rainforest Cafe:
Tonga Toast - cinnamon French toast with warm maple syrup topped with fresh strawberries, bananas and walnuts, served with your choice of bacon or sausage $8.99

Kona Cafe:
Tonga Toast - banana stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon sugar with choice of ham, bacon, or sausage $8.99
