What is the usual procedure for paying OOP

I understand we tell our server we're on the dining plan upon arrival at each restaurant.

For our 18M son, we'll be paying for his milk & meals OOP (whatever that means). He is not on the dining plan.

So will the servers automatically add on his charge to our room card? Or can we have it charged to our Visa separately? I want to be sure they do not charge us 3 meal credits by mistake instead of 2 meal credits plus whatever our son's costs.

So basically I'm asking how does OOP work when the check comes.

Thanks for the advance notice. Can't wait to start this trip!

What does OOP mean, plus I also have a 18 month old coming with us and would like to know the answer ... someone please

When are you going? We're going in Sept. Can't wait. Our little guy isn't taking to table food very well. We may end up taking peanut butter sandwiches and applesauce with us everywhere.

Have fun on your trip.

What we did was we told them we were on the dining plan at the beginning of each meal (they asked anyway). Then we told them our plan; whether we were all using credits or some were paying OOP. They always ask our kids ages if they looked to be near a cut off age (possibly under 3 or over 9) so they'd know not to charge a dining credit for a child under 3.

Then when we were done eating, we handed them our room card which has the dining credits on it AND the charging ability. They would use the proper amount of dining credits and put the OOP balance on my CC (charging it to the room) without any problems.

So when you arrive, tell them your DS's age (that he's not on the plan because he's under 3) and who you are using dining credits on and what you'll be paying OOP for and how you'll pay the OOP portion (room charge, another CC or maybe even cash) and they will bill you accordingly.

Oh and children under 3 are free at buffets and all you can eat restaurants but you will be charged at all other restaurants that you order food for him off a menu.

Also when combining some items OOP with the DDP be sure to double check your OOP reciept it most likely will already have an 18% gratuity added to it, so if you are happy with that amount you will not need to "tip twice". For those charges I usually just sign off without adding add'l tip to the card, but leave a few $$ on the table if the service warrants an add'l tip to bring it up to 20%.

Before you get dead set on paying for his own meals...have you thought about just sharing what you have on your plate?

Our kids were 2 & 3 last year on the dining plan, and our 2 year old always just shared our meals, half the time we didn't order one for DS3 either as there was always too much food to eat. My DH is a very big eater, and he couldn't even come close to finishing all of the TS meals.

Of course, that also depends on how adventurous your 18 month old is...my kids eat just about anything without hassle.

Wow, you are so lucky. We have one very picky eater. Yes, I'm hoping he can just share our food. But we will still have to pay for his milk. We have 3 months to work on him about eating table food. It is not going well at this point.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll just put his milk and whatever else on our visa. It's nice to kinda know how and what to expect. Thanks!

Last year our daughter was 10 months and if we ordered her juice I don't remember having to pay for it. I know she was still on formula so we didn't order milk.

Maybe they changed/fine tuned this meal plan.

If anything, I would recommend charging oop expenses to your room card, because if there is a mistake with your credits, they can see that you paid oop for something and that the incorrect # of credits was deducted. It is fairly simple to have any errors corrected at the lobby concierge in your hotel.
