The character lines are open to everyone during the party - but most Star Wars fans are out waiting for the Star Wars show to start during the party so the lines are pretty short.

While you may or may not get a photo with the Troopers at the party area, the best photo op with the Troopers is directly outside the Launch Bay next to the entrance. They'll linger there specifically for a photo op with guests before moving on to patrol the rest of the Animation Courtyard. It occurs most times before they begin the patrol. This is fairly new. They do attract a pretty good crowd so be there waiting for them.

One of the more comical Trooper interactions is when they pretend to be party guests and just about take over the check-in podium to interact with the check-in CMs. During check-in, if you look closely at the guest list, you'll usually see "Storm Troopers 2" hand written on the sheet. And if you don't see it, tell the check-in CM that you don't see the Troopers on list and are they not attending tonight. I guarantee that they will add them.

This is especially true towards the end of the party.

Guests are escorted to the viewing area in time to view the Movie Magic projection show, instead, I would do the M&Gs at that time. You'll have about 30 minutes before SWaGS begins. You can enter the viewing area whenever it's open on your own as long as you have credentials, you don't have to be part of the escort.

Do you get front of the line to them or have to wait with everyone else?

We're currently booked for the party based on old reviews- I didn't realize the viewing location changed. Generally how early would we need to go wait to have a good spot for the show if we decide not to do the party after all? We are looking at a Friday night that has an expected crowd level of 5. We can't eat most of the food anyway (gluten allergy) so the main reason we booked was for a great viewing location w/o having to wait.
