Hi all,

OK so I am getting worried.... We are splitting our stay between CS and Swan. I can't get the dining plan at Swan so we were hoping to share some of our TS credits (splitting the meals) and making them last longer. Orignally when I made my ADR's there was a good bit of talk about sharing meals on the boards and I wasn't worried. Lately people have been saying that Disney is cracking down on that. I don't understand because if we pay for X amount of food but we can't eat it in 4 days and spread it over 5 days what is the big deal?

Has anyone been lately and been able to split a meal? What is the latest scoop:confused3 We leave in 7 days so if I need to re-organize things I need to do it quick!!!

I'm not up on the sharing issue, but you do realize that your Dining Plan will expire at midnight on the day you check out of CS? It doesn't matter how much you share or save them, whatever is left at midnight is gone once you've checked out.

I believe the current DDP brochure says sharing is not permitted. As with all things Disney, I suspect enforcement of that is all over the place.

Miss Kim's observations about the expiration of the credits are exactly right. The "big deal" is that they'll be gone.

As far as I know, the Dining Plan brochure does not state that sharing is not permitted, as an absolute. Rather, this is what the Dining Plan brochure says about sharing food:

The only other mentions of or allusions to sharing in the brochure involve sharing credits between adults and children on a reservation (not allowed) and sharing food with a toddler (allowed).

However, WDW Guest Communications very consistently has been saying that "sharing is not permitted on the Dining Plan". However, it seems that every restaurant at WDW has decided to waive the absolutely-no-sharing policy, if it is actually a policy, for just about every single guest who's asked (nicely). Despite several attempt to get clarification about that statement, no clarification appears to be forthcoming from Guest Communications, and nothing official has been released by Disney Dining to resolve the confusion.

So, what does that mean for you? Basically, that you won't know if you can do as you suggest until you get to each restaurant and ask your server there whether they will allow you to do so. So be prepared for either answer, but I believe you'll probably be relatively happy with the answers you get.

Just related to this: Please understand that with the Dining Plan you're not paying for an amount of food, but rather paying for a service for a certain extent of time, with specific and non-specific limitations. Pricing for things like this typically factors in a certain amount of non-use. Folks who use all their credits surely get a better deal, but it is expected that, on average, a certain number of credits will be left-over, and therefore lost. Credits are allocated just to those on the hotel reservation since more people would use a small number of credits more efficiently, leaving, on average, fewer left-over, but yet they'd not have paid a higher price for the greater value they derive. Disney's prohibition here against this is aimed directly to prevent that imbalance.

Thanks for the replies everyone. We are only planning to stretch the meals one day because of the expiration at midnight when we check out, but it gives us one extra meal. We are not huge eaters, so.... I guess we will try and see if it works, if not we'll just pay oop for the rest.:hippie:
